I'm making an assumption that the electric pump motor on the trim tilts are removable without breaking any interfaces into the hydraulics. It is the Showa system. Anyone replaced one of the motors on the trim tilt to verify my assumption? _________________ You can tell a man his wife is ugly, but never ever criticize his dog, his gun, his truck or his boat.

On my 40 Suzuki......several bolts, unplug the harness, and it is off. It took thirty minutes, but bolts came loose easily. |

I'm sure you have flushed this out but you are sure it's not the adjustable trim limiter? One time my engines would not trim all the way up - soon figured out it was just the limiter that must have been bumped when I was futzing around on the platform. _________________ Captain Matt

Motor won't run. Relay on engine clicks, but no motor running. Could be the relay secondary contacts or wiring or the motor. I'm suspicious of the motor because it did this once last season and I whacked it with a rubber hammer and it started running. Should have replaced it then, but it was fine for 2 more trips before winterizing. |

Could well be the brushes have worn down on the motor.
Those permanent magnet DC motors run two directions with reversed polarity doing the switching.
Weak/worn brush to armature contact is the weak link in the system.
You can often replace the brushes and sand (turn) the armature and be good to go, or just replace the whole motor.
A good electric motor shop can do a professional job if you don't feel comfortable playing with it yourself.

A mechanic told me that I should run the engines to their full up/down positions several times during storage. I have been doing this and have had no more problems. |

I think that is very good counsel. Both times I've had problems have been on de-winterising the boat. Finally has crapped out all together. |
