Proper prop for a 25 with a Honda 150

OK, heres a graph of honda vs daydream:

Gearing up gives more MPH for RPM ( and sometimes, more MPG< unless you have it pegged

So for the Honda 150, it is the 9902 - 14.4 x 15 - 21. Prop is $180 and the spare blades are $23 each at the Bank of West Marine...

I went to Honda Marine's site and looked at propellers available for them and it looks to me that the new 135's up to the 225's use the same basic props. Same "family". Looks like the 9902 for the Propulse for us too.

OK, just ordered the 9902 ProPulse and two spare blades. FWIW, the ProPulse 9902 is "on sale" at West Marine right now, regular price is $179, on sale for $152...

Sorry for the delay in answering your post on this topic. Yes, Pat is correct the 9902 is the ProPulse that fits the 135, 150, and the 225. $152 is a great price. The proper setting will probably be between 15 and 17 depending on load (weight in the boat) and elevation (high lake use). We also purchased 4 extra blades just in case after reading Pat's ProPulse experience on his 22.

I hope that all of you enjoy the prop as much as we have. The light weight makes it shift effortlessly with none of the low speed vibrations associated with the stainless prop. Very Happy

We got the new Propulse, and as soon as we get the Laurna Jo back from the Factory( nothing serious, just some add-ons) we'll put her on and give her a shot! I did add 2 increments to the setting. Will see how that goes. Thanks for the input!

I have been very happy with my propulse. On the third year with no problems.
Been over proped and finally pulled the thing and went down an inch in pitch. Big difference using 5 to 7 gallons less fuel on the average halibut trip of 75 to 80 miles. Only took 30 minutes to cahange on the water.

My Yamaha uses a 8902 13 x 16

Why no? I really do think you should try one of those on the Suzuki with the granny gears, DoD. My suggesting it on that forbidden thread was not in jest. You don't have to reset it for every condition encountered on every cruise. Just find the best all around spot and keep it set there. I would try one if I wasn't prop poor already. Had I tried one first, I might not be so poor.

OK, the ProPulse 9902 came today, my other birthday present (besides the winch). It came set at 18 pitch, and I ratcheted it back one notch to 17 pitch, which is what I am going to try first I think. The Honda 150 specs say full throttle should be 5000 - 6000 rpm, so we'll check it out. What do other ProPulse owners have this puppy set at for their Honda 135s - 150s?

OK, FWIW, I am pretty sure the right prop for the Honda 150, for us anyway, is the 14.5" ProPulse 9902, adjusted to 15 pitch. This is a four blade composition material prop, adjustable from 15 to 21 pitch. I started out at 17 pitch, figuring that was what was needed to prop up from the 14.5" 15 pitch stainless three blade prop - wrong, wrong, wrong! At 17 pitch with the ProPulse the big motor could barely achieve 4000 rpm WOT. Figuring 400 rmp per inch of pitch, I was not sure that even dropping it to 15 pitch would be enough. But it is perfect - the Honda 150 WOT spec is 5000 - 6000 rpm. At 15 pitch the ProPulse turns over 5000, I did not let it wind to see how far it would go, just wanted to make sure it was north of 5000, which it is.

Now we are getting speeds at rpms approximating the published data.

3500 rpm - ave. 13.5 mph

4500 rpm - ave. 21 mph

Did not see how fast it would go WOT, will do that next time out if conditions allow.
