The Villages (FL) isn't a particularly active "boating community," but every now and then you see something interesting.

Best,

Thanks for posting that picture. I'd like to know the whole story. That setup could win a trophy where we come from. Roger

OK, I remember those!

What a classic pair!

How old were you in 1957, 1958, & 1959? (My high school years!)

I think that's about a 1958 Plymouth Fury Convertible with some modifications to the sides and fin size.

(Checked out '57-59 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and Imperial, but no perfect match, Cigar and no, it's not a '57 Cad, either! CoolSmile

Here in Redding, we still see an occasional "finish" fiberglass runabout from the late 50's era in someone's backyard. Would be a fun restoration project, and simpler than a car from the same era (maybe).

Paint it pink, turquoise green, or lavender. You did want to attract attention, didn't you?

Get a load (pile) of these!

Atomic Runabouts

Side Note: Where did those intervening 55 years go ???

Oh, and you can leave the room if you can't remember DeSotos, Groucho Marx, his cigars Cigar , George Finneman (there's that Fin, again!), the Secret Word, the Bird, and You Bet Your Life.

I'd say it's a 1960 Plymouth Fury...

Either way, that's a real hep set-up, Daddy-O!

that first rig is fer sure a fin fish boat, perhaps blue fin

awsome rigs, when I was a kid, we had a big old plymouth with fins, I don't remember much about it other than it had a push button transmission that I had managed to jam up the buttons on.

Do you think in 50 years folks will be admiring classic, cherry, chrysler mini vans towing bayliner capris? ...they just don't build to many rigs that have any charm anymore. That's one of the nice things about the c-dory, classic lines that look good regardless of the decade

I read that with the Amphicar, if the bilge pump failed it would sink in fairly short order.

I'll go with the 1960 Plymouth Fury convertible, with the continenal kit. The color is correct, the round emblem and the fin is correct, the continental kit as pictured was offered on the 1960 Chrysler, so I suspect it could have been bought for the Plymouth or retrofitted.

The boat was made by George L. Herter with a matching paint and logo

Here is the answer: A Video of both this car and boat!

Yep, me too...Local Boy and I are the same age...-4, -3, -2 was exactly what I was about to post!

And Bob Austin wins the prize...correct all the way around. That video is of the exact car and boat....and it still has the "I heart (love) Fins" bumper sticker.

If you guys like old cars, come to The Villages! There is a "cruise-in" (classic car show) EVERY month here. But this car/boat wasn't even part of a car show. It was just parked on the street here. And if you think the cars are cool, you should see the golf carts!

I was in Med school in 1957-58 & 59. Still not old enough for the "Villages" now.

I had seen an article on the golf carts of the Villages--I believe they even have a specific forum for those.

Thanks for brining out those really neat photos, Casey!
