My first post and I'm already asking for something!

I'm a recent Seattle transplant and as part of the move I changed boats and bought a 22' angler last month. I'm a hardcore fisherman and have been focusing on longfins out of OR and WA this summer, but figure it's time to also learn the local waters.

So I'm looking to see if there's anyone out there that want's to teach me the ways of The Sound fishing. I'm a complete newbie to fishing up here, but have done the salmon thing down in Morro Bay (grew up) and Bay Area (10 years there) so not sure what cross over there is.

I would love to pay my way on someones Dory and learn the fishery from gear and ports and techniques. I'm an offshore guy, so all my gear is for palegics, so I know I'm due to buy new gear (wife is real happy about that) so I want to make sure I get the right gear.

Please PM or email travisseaton at gmail.com if you'll take me under your wing.

Thanks - Travis

I think the first step is picking up some guide books. We have John Martinez's latest Saltwater Journal on our boat, and that is a great start.

Also, just getting out there you can glean a ton of information just seeing what others are using and their techniques. The Edmond's derby this weekend would be a good place to check everyone out.

I can't offer a ride, since Im still a working stiff. I never get enough time to take myself and family out and get dialed in. Good luck and congrats on the new angler!!!

yes to everything Paul said. and definitely pick up John's book, its the best $25 you'll ever spend.

washingtonlakes.com has good reports, the wdfw has decent creel reports, and the further north you go the better.

right now you'll be able to catch pinks pretty much anywhere, salt or river, but if you want to get into the coho and kings I recommend you stay out of areas 11, 12, and 13. even area 10 is kind of slim picking. 9 - etc is better.

Tom and Roger could probably give more advice too.
