For sale: 2006 Tom Cat by C Dory. Twin 150 Suzuki outboards 240 hours. 14,000 lb rated Aluminum frame trailer by Float on. Trailer has less than 1500 miles on it, with spare. Boat on trailer weight is about 10,000 lbs. You will need a ¾ ton vehicle to tow it safely.
We haven’t used this boat enough to justify keeping it out the hands of someone that will enjoy its potential. It's been used only 30+ hours in the two+ years that we have owned it. In addition, I find that I cannot maintain the boat properly and Sally currently has a broken arm that hinders her movement considerably. It’s the second TC255 I have owned and, I believe, one of the best out there. Our interests must shift elsewhere.
This is Hull #39 custom made and highly customized.
Electronics: Lowrance X26 HD plotter and sounder with all of US coastal charts internally loaded. Dual frequency transducer. Fuel flow meters. NMEA 2000 back bone system installed. Standard Horizon 175, with C map Max of Northern and Southern Chesapeake Bay and tributaries.
Furuno 1715 Radar . Two Standard Horizon Radios—one with Matrix hailer and fog horn. Standard Horizon Stereo, with quality box speakers. Antenna connections for two external ham radio antennas.
Galley, Wallas stove, Custom cabinets, Norcold Chest freezer/refer, 110/12 volts on slide out under seat ) Microwave. Water heater.
Electrical: 1000 watt Xantrex inverter, 20 amp Tru Pro Xantrex charger, Plus Guest 2 battery 10 amp charger. Blue Seas VSR for alternator changing for all battery banks. Two AMG group 31 house batteries power inverter and refer. 1 Group 29 house and two group 29 engine start. Multiple switch combining. Blue Seas digital volt meter for all batteries. Upgrade wiring, switches and breaker/fuses. Extra power cords, generator cords, and 2 30 amp cords. 2000 Honda EU, generator with 6 gallon aux tank and stands for use on swim step. Cockpit Box for generator and cords Generator will run water heater, Microwave or Air conditioner, on eco mode.
Air conditioner 8300 BTU Coleman Polar cub. Cools the boat down at least 20 degrees below ambient in Florida summers.
Extra shower on stern (hot and cold). Raw water wash down (I’ve never tried this but it’s a factory install). Extra fittings for fenders and dock line Ground tackle: 22 lb Delta with appropriate rode and chain. Electric Windlass.
Garhauer davit, with support for deck house use, Rigged now for cockpit use to get an outboard onto a dingy. Lifesling for MOB use in a cockpit stow container.
Custom line and fender holders---all dock lines and 6 fenders.
Custom camper back. This is probably the best back made, with Sunbrella plus (waterproof), awning railing on the sides, full transparency on the back, roll up all sides. Free standing Bimini. !” SS tubing and SS fittings. New screens for sides and stern. It has been preserved each year and remains in place over the winter under our covered lift.
Window interior coverings. Full Temperpedic mattress pad. All bedding included. Ditch bag, with safety gear. There is an extra cushion which allows one person (over 6' 4") to sleep fore and aft, and then several others to sleep athwartships if you wish on the forward bunk.
It has been lift kept, and flushed with fresh water after each run. No bottom paint. She is ready to go anywhere. Just put on food and go. All utensils, pots, dishes etc included. All spares, extra new LED lights, spot lights, flood lights for night running, everything you need to go..... . I hauled this boat from Pensacola to Virginia in August of 2011.
Please look at the "Thatway" album. http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=15884 You will see how the upgrades were done properly. (There are also some later photos of the restoration of a 25 monohull, don't confuse them). These are Dr. Bob’s original pictures. Nothing has been done since then except for the screens for the cockpit enclosure and a bypass I installed on the water heater so when you winterize it, you don’t have to fill the heater with antifreeze. The boat has been fully winterized each winter and has remained on the lift. I don’t have many pictures of it but the ones on the Thataway album are current to the configuration of the boat. Could be shipped to the West Coast for about $3500 (last estimate). Email with Questions or pictures of anything specific. I run the boat each week (on the lift, or for a short trip into the River) and it is ready for a sea trial on short notice.

Have a possible buyer from the West Coast. He flew out on Sunday and hired a surveyor who did his thing on Monday including a sea trial, which went well. Had an engine ground problem that I fixed this morning (lose wire, bad connection) but the Lowrance X26-C HD chartplotter conked out. It powers up but then shuts down. Need to replace it either with like kind (easiest) or with another. I'd prefer to find one like it, and just install the "head" unit and use existing plugs, accessories.
Called the factory and they gave me some things to try (no service available now, too old) but that didn't work and was told it was probably the hard drive. It's worked great since I got it two years ago from Dr. Bob, and just failed on Monday (wouldn't you know it).
Any replacement suggestions? Looking for a combination plotter, it's the only depth indication also. Anyone want to replace a Lowrance and get one of the new HDS units?

My chartplotter did that, when I was testing it prior to installation, if there was something limiting either the current and/or voltage to it as it comes up and turns on more and more of its internal components. I was trying to test it with a 12V wall transformer.
Might be a quick test to wire the power leads straight to a known-good battery/connection and see if it still has the problem. |

Be careful of using a wall wart type of power supply. They may not be clean. Whenever I use test power on 12 volts, I either use a fully charged battery, or one of my 30 amp regulated power supplies I use for ham radio gear.
Sorry the hear about the problem--if that is all, then it is fairly easily solved.
However, I would be looking at some connection as it heats up. If worse come to worse and Lowrance Elete 5 or 7 are not going to break the bank, and will give him a new chart plotter Depth Sounder.
If I was the buyer (and I wish I was), I would take an allowance and go with more modern units. I have been looking at adding radar to "Thisaway" the C Dory 22--and am considering Garmin 741xs with the G 18 radar. Better yet one of the Simrad 7NSS or 8NXX units and 4 G radar with heading sensor--But there are huge changes with side scan, CHIRP, etc in the last year.
Good luck! _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks Bob! Have looked at the Elite 7 as a replacement and found several Lowrance 26CX units on EBay used with a warranty of sorts. Only ones are in China though.
Probably came from there in the first place! They would be plug and play, as long as they "play". It's a nice unit with good features, hate to lose it!

Sally and I are both glad and sad to say that THATAWAY has been sold to a Brat from Vancouver WA. We will leave it to him to make any introduction although he has made a couple of posts.
We are looking for a smaller C-dory at this point, something for an older couple to tow/launch and maintain. And if we can figure out who they are, we'll borrow their boat!

Congrats on the sale, Charlie. I think this makes you second only to Wefings for TomCat sales. This in no way disallows you from participation here! Hope you find that couple with a C-Dory you can borrow... should we talk?
Best wishes,
Jim |
