Anyone know anything about this navigable waterway system? We've been doing some reading on the internet and it sounds like an interesting cruise - anyone done it? We think we might head down the rivers in spring if the rivers aren't too high with floating stuff.
Would have gone down the Ouachita River this month but the river is too high with the rains and there's too much stuff in the water. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Hey Bill & El Glad to see you hooked back up. Please keep in mind that we are going to attempt a gathering in the Nashville, TN area sometime in the month of Apr05. As you know, several family members have homes/docks on the Cumberland River system (Old Hickory Lake) just a short spin up river and one lock/dam from the new improved revised Nashville Waterfront Park.... and, a land trip to the Grand Ol' Opry would more than likely be a nice night out too. |

Halcyon/Bill & El: I see you are on with the member list. Just talked with Mike and he and B will join me at the seattle boat show. Wish there was a way to just chat on this site. |

Ouachita, Black, and Red River 575 Mile 6 Day March 2005
Brenda and I cruised from Camden AR to Shreveport La in March 2005.
This was our first cruise in our new 22 C-Dory / 75 Honda purchased in
November 2004. Moro Bay AR (state park) was the only marina with fuel until Shreveport LA and other fuel obtained by taxi, walking, and helpful fishermen.
We also cruised the Arkansas River in June 2005. Fuel on this cruise was no problem. However, the June temperature (95+) made sleeping in the V berth difficult and made the Holiday Inn attractive.
Our next cruise, when we see cooler weather, will be the from Little Rock AR on the Arkansas and into the Mississippi River.
Cruising with an experienced pro would be great to improve our seamanship. If you know a member cruising this area please give them our e-mail brussell@ipa.net .

Bill and Brenda --
Thanks for the update on these rivers. We cruised the Arkansas from head of navigation to the Mississippi, in tandem with SeeSaw, in October '04. Great cruise. You can read our tale at:
http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/arkriv.htm
Doesn't look like we'll be down your way this fall, but would have enjoyed a tandem cruise with you folks -- but not in the summer. New York was too hot for us this summer. |
