Sam has completed his circumnavigation now:

This trip was much shorter than the trip to Glacier Bay and back. Somehow I averaged both a higher speed (7.3 vs 6.7 knots) and better fuel economy (3.82 nm/gal vs. 3.71 nm/gal). I attribute this to carrying less weight this trip.

Total distance: 1,244.1 nm
Total engine hours: 170.3
Average speed: 7.3 knots
Total fuel burned: 325.4 gallons
Average fuel consumption: 1.91 gph (3.82 nm/gal)
Total fuel cost: $1,788.78 (assuming CAD and USD at par)
Average fuel cost: $5.50/gal

Fun to follow him, thanks Sam!

Charlie

Sam,

Glad you made it around, back and safe. I have been here occasionally, to watch your track, and I too, wish you had the full track saved. That would be really cool. Since I have been really berried at w@&k my boating this summer has often been vicariously done from the laptop. Still hoping to get out some and see you at Sidney.

I was surprised at the average size boats you saw on the west side. Expected much larger. And really pleased with the fuel economy. I'm looking forward to doing that trip, but it will be a few more years. By then, I'll be using your book as a field guide Very Happy

Thanks again for sharing, here and the blog.

Harvey

I just noticed that the August picture on the c-brats calendar was very appropriate. None other than Retriever in Glacier Bay! Smile

Oh, and Sam, I got in touch again with SPOT and asked them about data older than 30 days, and apparently it is "gone". I have told them that that is not very satisfactory!

Here is my last reply from SPOT - which does not help with the earlier part of your trip...

Thank you for contacting SPOT, the world's first GPS satellite messenger.
Thanks for the feedback, we definitely consider increasing the storing of GPS data. Until such change come to be a reality, have you been informed about Spot Adventures, http://www.findmespot.com/spotadventures/, which is another service we provide that can help in permanent storage of GPS coordinates. It is manual at this stage, but if you have someone who could log in once a week and import the data from the SPOT account it is a viable work around in the meantime . I know this does not help with the past, but for future reference.
Please let us know if we can further assist you.

Thank you for choosing SPOT.

Hi Sam,

I don't remember any comments about any anchoring issues on this trip. I know you switched from the Delta to the Manson. I like that progression, although I have not had any issues with the Delta, the logic of the Manson is attractive.

Any anchor issues on this trip?

Thanks,

Harvey
