I believe that this has been mentioned in at least one prior post, but here is a review of coppercoat, a product that supposedly gives many years of bottom coat protection. Might be useful if you plan on keeping your boat for a while.

CopperCoat has been around since the mid 1990's (Was CopperBot at tone time). There are mixed reviews--and some claim they have to sand it with very fine sand paper peroidically.

It is a water soluable epoxy/copper mix. It requires 5 coats. There are a few reports of it lasting 10 years. If it is used all old bottom paints have to be totally be removed.

It has not gained much popularity--a lot depends on the waters it is used in. I certainly would not consider it where a boat was trailered.

There are other non water soluable epoxy coatings with copper which do not seem to be successful.

Hello, I am the US distributor for Coppercoat and would like to answer some questions about the product and what can be expected from it.

It has been used around the world since 1991, we brought it to the U.S. a little over 4 years ago. We have a lot of trailable boats that use Coppercoat because it doesn't die when it is hauled out of the water as most anti-fouling do. Coppercoat is applied in 4 coats over a clean bottom and our average customer gets about 10 years of life before they should need their first touchups which are usually along the waterline or above the props.

Coppercoat has treated over 40,000 boats worldwide in all climates. We have found that like most anti-foulings, the warmer the water the more often it will need to be cleaned.

I would be happy to answer any questions anyone might have regarding Coppercoat.
