I believe that this unfinished Chilkat catamaran had its beginnings as a 30' C-Dory.

Enjoy!

There is a cruising version--which has two bunks forward.
http://www.blackfeatherboats.com/models_power_catamaran_boats.cfm
This has the small trunk cabin forward, with the bunks, a galley and head, with dinette. I had contacted Black feather, but the price was a bit steep.
It sounds as if this boat is still at the factory--and that the factory will finish it out. If so, I agree that the price would be interesting, but I would suspect over $150K, rigged. _________________ Bob Austin

The cruising model is great but my wife would never go for the seperate beds. How would she get those cold feet on my leg from way over there? |

Middle of the night sneak attacks! We had a sailboat on which the most comfortable berths were separated twins like that. Together is more fun, but sleep is important, too... just ask Harvey.
Neat looking boat, though.
Best wishes,

The Chilkat 30 is a well built boat manufactured here in Juneau, Alaska. Greggor, the owner of Blackfeather, has put a lot of time and thought into how they are built. They are substancially heavier and larger than a 255 Tomcat and are used up here very successfully by several charter companies. Because they are a walk-around, the cabin is about the same size as the 255 Tomcat. Performance is very similar, but as would be expected, they can handle larger seas better. The main difference for most people is the trailerability (they are 30+ long and 10+ wide) and the cost. Fitted out nicely, they will top $200,000. The website was listed already by Thataway and has a number of nice videos on it. If you are looking for a boat to trailer home then you want the 255 Tomcat. If you want more than the 255, then contact Greggor and I am sure he will make you happy. |

35K is a good deal for the hull molds and two deck house molds--probably includes the "Cruiser" version--There were only a couple of those built. (Maybe only one--which I have seen) The problem is the 12 foot beam....But I would love to have one--It would be a fantastic Great Loop boat! But you would have to barge the molds down from Juneau--and then get them to a shop which would do the hull. BlackFeather was set up for resin infusion--not sure if that gear is available or not--but the ad says some parts are available....
There is a 30 charter fishing boat currently for sale for $105,000 with twin 225's and the trailer and 9.9 High Thrust trolling motor are "extra".... |

The boss has a chilkat #1 and a 30' tomcat listed through AK Boat brokers. He always has boats listed on that site, I think he wants to try all of the boats, like a kid in a toy store....or...like me in a good bakery . I'd love to have that tomcat tied up on the Columbia, that would be a wind chop eating machine.....he wont sell it to me though, said he would be down a boat and a captain as we would both be in Ilwaco all summer
I wonder what it would take to convert that open bow into v berth? |

The "Crusier" version had a wider deck house, and a small dog house forward like the Tom Cat. I tried to find a photo on the internet, but couldn't. I may have some photos I took when I was in AK--not sure which computer they are on. I'll try and look thru my photos.
You could make one out of plywood. The Ameracat 31 had a similar small trunk cabin forward made for one boat which had a pilot house and seating for diving. They put a bunk down there, just like the Tom Cat.
For the current boat you could cut our the foredeck and raise it--with a step up for the entire deck (our of plywood), then cut an opening to the bunk area in the center. Looking at the photos of the fishing boat, there is at least a foot, to 18" of height above the current deck (but you have been aboard these boats and know the fishing boats better than I do) There is probably room in the hulls to put in quarter bunks, and maybe even a head (?).
Run the boat down un its own bottom and fish along the way! (Start at the end of the season--have a phantom buyer--so the Boss doesn't know!) Be a great trip, and you would have a great boat--next winter put the raised fore deck on it an you have a killer boat! |

Boy, if I showed up home with one of those I'd have to build a v berth...as I'd be having to live in it. It would be a heck of the boat for the Columbia though.
Those boats have an opening between the front seats with a few feet of storage between the bulkhead and the front. |
