Polls are excellent tools, but for discussions such as singles vs twins, a consensus of the majority might not reflect the right answer. In our distant past, people thought that the Sun orbited the Earth, Malaria was caused by swamp vapors and Elvis is really alive but was abducted by aliens. What the majority may believe does not necessarily make it true. _________________ Marinaut 215 - "Betty Ann" Sept-2011

There is no "right" answer where opinions are involved... [Twins vs singles] but where facts rule there are right and wrong answers... [Elvis never had swamp vapors]

Polls regarding subjects such as preferred brand of outboard motor or singles vs twins end up being answered according to what the individual currently has on their vessel, as in most cases that is what the wanted in the first place. We all like to think that we've made the "best" choice. Most of us know what other folks preferences are on this site even before conducting a poll as we've most likely read their opinions on the subject previously. However, the numerical answers that are provided at the end of the poll, does reflect an accurate number of peoples preferences. (At least those that are willing to participate in the poll).
However, polls such as "How many folks on this site have a captain's license", is an accurate poll and indeed has a "right answer". (Again of those willing to participate in the poll). _________________ Dave S.

Hmmm. Pooling the poll results on whether to poll or not; It appears we have a very pollished pool of poll participants, but whether a pollish joke about polling meets the standards of pollite society is a question best settled, perhaps, within our pool of pollers. _________________ Patti and Barry

I agree with you about twins vs. singles, because it really comes down to each person's needs on a case by case basis. However, I have to draw a line in the sand with respect to Elvis; I get my facts from Coast to Coast. |

Those are referred to, by some in this pub, as Poll- itical.
And we think they fit under the heading, "Daily Laugh."
And, right you are, they don't belong here -- they are only whispered in the rest rooms, not here on the open site. So you might find some under that heading, "once upon the port-potti." _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Thanks for the responses, folks.
Lots of good serious discussions on this site, but it sure is fun to have a good time chuckling together in the pub, eh? |
