Here's the replacement for Dreamer. Not floating but we're enjoying it.

The first night my wife spent in our new travel trailer in 1998, we felt like 10 year olds out camping in mom and dads back yard. We just chuckled, after decades of tenting about having this hard sided thing with a toilet and a hot shower and oven and full bed, etc. We became dedicated trailer travelers. We are on our second fifth wheel and love it. It isn't fancy, but it has all we need for about any length trip we'd like to take.
As much fun as a C-dory can be, there just seems to be that need for Susan and for me to be able load up our fifth wheel and hit the road for some weeks of desert and mountain environments that just aren't around "big" water. We are often towing a small open 16 foot fishing boat or taking the canoe with the fifth wheel so we can access water whenever we are camping by it.
Unfortunately, the "break even" costs associated with a trip with the fifth wheel versus driving faster and staying in hotels and eating in restaurants has become more of a toss up than 10 years ago. In those days, the fifth wheel was hands down, the cheaper way to travel. (Of course that's assuming you balance distance and time away rationally). Diesel fuel is now THE major part of the calculations. Our trip with STILL CRAZY to do the east coast canals will put us out almost 2 grand in fuel costs.
The only way I justify the fifth wheel trips and the c-dory trips is that my best friend is going through about 15 to 20 grand a year in cruise ship expenses. He thinks I'm crazy to want to do the towing and work associated with my kind of tripping. I think he's crazy to sit on a cruise ship and eat himself into the 300 pound unhealthy short guy that he is.
May your roads be well paved and your fuel economy exceptional. _________________ You can tell a man his wife is ugly, but never ever criticize his dog, his gun, his truck or his boat.

We did the reverse with trailers first and boating second and we still miss the land travel enough to promise outselves a class B+ in retirement next decade.
We had a great time and traveled mostly in the "off" season to avoid crowded campgrounds and summer travel traffic.
Don't forget to look near as well as far. Many great places to park and relax in your own state. One of our favorites is Steamboat Rock state park. Go there in the spring, take some walks and watch the wildlife.
With your boat skills, I sure hope you two have a floaty toy planned to go with that fifth wheel. Portaboat? _________________ Greg, Cindie & Aven

Welcome to the Arctic Fox family! We love our AF camper -- served us almost flawlessly during 2 months of continuous use this winter. We are considering buying a used pull trailer (possibly an AF) to leave in Baja.
Where did you buy yours?

In our CD-22, we had a delightful cruise down the Arkansas River. This week, land cruising, we cruised the Upper Arkansas Valley, in Southern CO. Anyone looking for a land cruise in your RV, hard to beat the wildlife spectacular at Monte Vista Nat;l Wildlife Refuge.
Thousands of Sandhill Cranes are migrating northerly -- they fill the sky over the refuge, and assault the ears with their calls. The fields are literally jumping with cranes. Now is the time to see this amazing sight.
Maybe you can drift on down CO way in your land yacht? _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

But maybe not come this weekend - looks like some snow coming our way. Maybe next week, after the sun returns. |

So when are you hitting the road, and which way are you headed? Rocky Mountain NP high country roads are usually open by Memorial Day, and this is a marvelous area for your new rig. Now the wildlife refuges along the Front Range are teeming with wildlife migrating north, coming out of hibernation, or feeling the urges of springime. Ah, the bugling of elk, the banging of horns crashing together as the bighorns via for mates, the cackling of geese and trills of the Sandhill Cranes.
Come on over -- we'll join for some 'cruising' together time, if you wish. Spring is in the air, and you have a comfortable rig for enjoying the beauties of the season outdoors. |

You are going to have to get one of the Porti boats or an good air floor inflatable to keep you on the water. That does not look like it will float well...!
Nice digs-and I know that you all will have some great trips--Congratulations. _________________ Bob Austin
