V ing out the crack if it is a superficial craze is proper before filling with gel coat--fibers if a large crack--glass over if there is actually stress in this area. I agree, that fiberglass is not like plexiglass or metal needing a "stopper hole" drilled.

The small craze cracks are usually due to lack of proper installation of the screw, and as long as no core is compromised, not really an issue.
