I'm looking for what I would call a "75 degree stainless stanchion base for 1" tubing". They might also be called a rail base fitting. Similar to these, but a different angle:
Most of the ones I can find are at 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees. I need something that is at 75 degrees (15 degrees off a normal right-angled fitting).
This base will be mounted in my splashwell which is fairly close to 15 degrees off of level. It will be used to capture some thick walled stainless tubing used to support one corner of a generator / seating platform.
If I can't source this part, my alternative is to cast an epoxy base (wedge) so that I can use a normal 90 degree base. This will work fine, but in addition to the extra work, the bolts will pass through the splashwell at an angle making snugging it up to a backer plate more difficult.
The hinged bimini type fittings would work since they could adapt to any angle, but they aren't necessarily made for strength in compression. This needs to take the weight of someone sitting on the platform it supports.
If anyone knows of where to find this 75 degree base or some other terminology to use in a search, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wefings marine in Eastpoint,fl is going to build a stand in the splash well of my 1989 22'er. They said that they have done this before.

Buy something close cut it and then have welded per your directions

You are probably right. After thinking about it a bit more, the heavy duty deck hinges have a 5/16" bolt that connects the two pieces. The shear strength of that bolt should easily be able to support a person, generator, or cooler. If it doesn't work for some reason, I'll go about having some custom fittings welded up. I'll go with these I think:

There will only be one of these per half of my platform. The way I'm making it, it will lay over the existing seating. So only the back corner of each half closest to midships will be supported by the thick walled tubing. All other corners will be supported by the existing seating and the lip at the front of the splashwell.
In the second picture, the dashed lines show where the platform is supported by the cockpit seating / splashwell. The 1/4" plywood is just my template material. The final will be made from starboard.
Basically if both halves of the platform are installed, it will create a full width bench across the cockpit. They will be attached with take-apart hinges at the front. With my twin 90s and the associate steering linkage, there is very little room in the splashwell for a normal generator platform. This also would provide more seating for cruising as well as a place to put things so they stay out of the cockpit while fishing (cooler for example). I'll eventually make a cushion for each half. |
