A ways east of Astoria today I saw a unique looking C-Dory for sale. The sign on it said it was a 1986 22' Work Skiff. The HIN had it as a 21', but then I believe the CD 16s are identified as 15' in the HIN, so this hull might be just shy of, but still considered, 22'.

Neat looking fish boat. It had a short and narrow cabin, with two front windows, and one window on each side. No rear bulkhead - just a drop curtain. The V-berth was pretty much CD standard (with cushions), but the cabin was about the size of a 16' Angler. It had fairly wide (10" or so) walk arounds to the foredeck on both sides. Flat bottom almost the full length with a short V entry. The cockpit is huge! Six people fishing, no problem.

There is no motor with it, but the controls are there. The trailer was an older painted job.

The guy is asking $7000 for it the way she sits. I will give him a call and see if he wants us to list it in the ads, and maybe get some history on it. If I ever remember to take a camera along, maybe I can snap some pictures of it on the way home from work next week.

Did I mention the cockpit was huge?

Mike-

Did it look like this?

http://groups.msn.com/CDoryOwnersGroup/usedcdorysforsale.msnw

This is a C-Dory 21 Pro-Angler. It's mislabeled as a 22' Angler in the ad. Very few were ever built, about 15 or so. If you run a search on the other site, there should be a discussion of it there. I saw and photographed this boat pictured when it was moored in Alameda a few years back, but my photos were lost when the original site went down. The captions are still available on the archived site, however. Joe.

Not really, Joe. It seems the cabin was smaller and maybe even a bit farther forward. It did not have a bow rail, so maybe it just looked farther ahead. The cabin was smaller than the one in the linked picture, I am sure. Although the perspective in the picture is perhaps skewed, I do believe there was more cockpit, too. A lot more. "Work Skiff" is a fitting description of the boat I saw.

I am just going to have to get some pictures of the thing.

Here's a link to the latest discussion of that boat on the C-Dog site.

Joe - I may be crazy, but it seems to me there was no raised cockpit floor in this thing. I am sure I would have noticed that. I tried calling the guy a little while ago, but no answer. Will try again after 7:00 like he suggests on his sign.

I didn't write down the HIN, but I do remember it was number 007.

I stopped on the way home from work to look that boat over again. It does not have a raised floor, and it is definitely different than any I have seen pictures of. Speaking of pictures, I took a bunch. After taking Grandma Kay and the whole crew out for Grandma Kay's birthday dinner, I will see if they turned out and get some posted.

Another feature of this boat is something I would not have imagined. The tops of the gunnels are extended outboard and have a rolled lip overhanging the side of the hull by a few inches. The glass for this lip (I am sure someone knows what to call it) is right about 1/4" thick. I might have a picture showing that detail, but you have to wait because Grandma isn't getting any younger.

Cool job on the spy photos Mike. I think I've seen that thing parked over at that boat shop in Chinook a few times. We just wizzed on by and never did stop to gawk, I always kind of wondered if somebody had just stuck a C-D cabin on a work scow...I guess not

Nice pictures, Mike!

I've never seen another one of thoose! Smile

From what I can surmise, C-Dory did a lot of experimenting and one of a kind custom boat building from 1979 until the mid-1980's, when they broke through with a practical, good looking, and saleable design in the form of the C-D 22 Cruiser. Wink

I think they were having a lot of fun during those early years just enjoying the challenges of the design process. Idea

Too bad there isn't a complete set of factory photographs and written chronicles of those years and the boats produced. Sad

We'll have to add this one to our file! Thumbs Up Joe
