This is a picture of a mystery devise plumbed into the fuel tank vent line on my 1995 22Angler. I took the picture laying on my back with my head against the dual aluminum tanks looking up under the port gunnel. There's one exactly like it on the starboard side. I called the factory but they have no idea??

Lately, that is the last few months, I've been having problems with water somehow getting into my fuel and I've convinced myself the intrusion is from the vent lines which are plumbed below the rub rail. Sometimes in taller seas the water washes up over the vent fittings so I ordered a couple of those Perko fuel caps with the vent built in so as to raise it all up to the top of the gunnel and, in the process of beginning the retro I've encountered these.

Since I'm really not absolutely certain as to where the water is coming from, I feel I need to pause for a second and see just what these things are. If they are some sort of water protection thing well...[/img]

Well I followed the Ultimate how to post pictures thread and it didn't work out I guess. I'm out of time so I'll have to try again later, but in the meantime it's a black plastic thing shaped and plumbed kind of like an in line fuel filter. It's located on the vent line about a foot above where it comes out of the tank.

Just a guess w/out the pic; but could it be some sort of overflow preventer? A device in the vent line that either notifies you of a nearly "full" tank or contains a check valve of some sort that allows air in but does not allow fuel out.

Just a guess but I have used something like that in the past. It's a whistle that tweets away as the tank is being filled. Because of its shape, when the first drop of fuel reaches it, the whistling stops and you should stop filling at that point. It prevents overfilling and spills. Now, lets see the photo and see if I'm all wet or not!

When you post a photo, it has to be somewhere on the web for the address to be valid. The address for your photo is on your C drive.
