Hi new C-Dory owner, need some phone numbers of canvas shop you used for your AFT cover or camper cover.
I live in Long Island NY and had no luck in getting a cover made.

I have tried King Canvas but he does not answer his cell, also tried Canvas riggings no answer.

Does any of these Canvas have a web site, I want to send a picture of what I want.

Any help is appreciated.

John

Hi John
We recently made the decision to go ahead and get the camper back, (so much for the kids collage fund). I contacted several canvas shops. Some with C-Dory experience and some not. The best service I got was from Dave at King'.They do a lot of C-Dory's, mass production keeps the cost down. Their standard unit can be shipped to customers for self-install. However, We are doing a few things differently so they need the boat on site. Hope this helps, good luck in your search.

Hi-John I am having the same problem getting someone to install a decent canvas top. They are all either too busy or don't return phone calls, I had one fellow, (highly recommended) that came to the boat , spent over 2 hrs. measuring, discussing, & plotting, gave me a price that I agreed upon, said he would start in a week(that was March) I haven't been able to reach him since then.
They also usually want the boat on their site for adjustments. If you can find someone in your area that installs dodgers for sailboats that would be your best bet, they seem to do better than average work and are more custom oriented than your local canvas shop, that probably has never seen a C-Cory before. And they usually are a mobile business.Three things I would recommend, 1. always use stainless steel if possible 2. never pay any money in advance 3. Don't be too economical with the materials to be used. Good Luck- Rich

Hello John and congratulations on your new C-Dory.
Dave at King Marine made my canvas top and shipped the top and the hardware needed to install it to PA..He was great to work with so just keep trying that cell number. There are many discussions on this site concerning canvas tops and their installation.

Canvas Riggers is pretty much fully booked - we made our appointment I think in March, and the first available slot for manufacture and install was in July...they have to come to EQ to do the install because a CD25 with a radar arch is too tall for their shop. But they do good work (we have seen their work on Bess-C, and Les uses them too). They do require a deposit when you make the appointment. Here is the number:

The Canvas Riggers; Rick Karr- 672-4417

Our first camperback was the then-stock King Marine version (2003) for our CD22, which left a lot to be desired in our opinion. Their design has been improved since then I hear.

If you are going to have a custom one made locally by somebody who has never done a C-Dory camperback, you should have lots of pictures and a good idea of what you want. I second stainless steel struts and quick disconnects. Several other things are pretty important. First, you want a small panel with zippers near the attachment point to the cabin roof so you can detach the top without having to slide the whole thing out of the channel. Second, you want the sides and back more panelized than the original King design for easy entry from either side and access to the motor and lazarettes. Finally, you want the sides and back a little less taut than King seemed to feel they needed to be. Les observed this is a prevalent problem with canvas folk.

Good luck!

Hi Folks,

At this time of year, the Canvas People are buried with orders, and Yachtee's wanting there project done YESTERDAY. You ought to put it off until next winter when they are looking for work.

You should also find somebody in your area, because it is a custom job. Copy a lot of pictures of things people have done off the C-Dory sites, so you know what to ask for.

I had two things I wanted. A split back window so I could get to the engine, and a split zipper where the top meets the cabin top. It zips on both sides from the side to the center. It makes it easier to get into the cockpit from a dock.
