I haven't made it out there yet, but I've heard that Main Bay can hold a boatload of reds at the right time. Can't recall exactly when that would be though. Might want to check the ADF&G fishing report archives for clues on timing. They tell of other spots too... _________________ -Rod

Coghill Lake has a decent return of reds that you can get to. |

I'm envious of you guys up North. Red Salmon are the best but we don't have any in sunny Oregon (with the exception of their fresh water cousins-Kokanee). _________________ Jerry and Helen

Here is some information on PWS from ADF&G. It is a PDF file so you will need Adobe Acrobat to read it.
I hope this works! |

Eshamy Bay is another thought but it's a ways from Valdeze. They have a great red run. Long bay too, I've heard but haven't tried.

PS, you may have to wait for the Crimson Coyote, I think he's in Southeast. |

Billy's Hole is supposed to be good if you can time it right but the timing varies quite a bit. Probably one of the many instances when its better to be lucky than good.
Yeah, I think the wiley Red Fox is perusing the area around Prince of Wales Island. He'll probably give directions to his favorite fishing spots in unbreakable code.
The Foxmeister will probably check in during his SE treasure hunt. _________________ Mark on Mighty Bite |

I've only been out in the Sound for a couple of years but the trick to finding the reds seems to be hitting the timing right. I've been to Eshamy, Main, Long and Coghill. Looking for reds in all of them. You'll here guys say "You should have been here yesterday!" That always makes you feel at the top of your game
The run timing charts on the ADF&G are good for trends, but they don't seem to suffice to predict the daily influx or dirth of those tasty fish. AOJ also has some great reports from both the state and private fisherman, but again it is history and not predictive.
The best I can offer is just spend as much time out on the water as the pocketbook and the misses will allow. Hit each of the hot spots when the historic trends say it will likely be hottest. And look for the commercial fishermen, they know where the fish are. Then you can be one of those wise old salts that look over at us poor hapless fishermen with nothing in the cooler and say "You should have been here yesterday!" _________________ Mike and Alisha's Tip of the Day...
