Mascoat Delta-T thermal insulation coating is now a standard item on Marinaut boats.

We decided to use Delta-T on the entire boat. The hull below the floor pan (which is one piece from bow to stern) is sprayed and so is the underside of the floor pan so that the "bilge" space is fully insulated. We wanted to control whatever condensation occurs and to help in the reduction of sound levels (they weren't obtrusive before but quieter is better).

The whole structure above the floor pan (including the transom area, under side decks, cockpit sides, etc) is coated with the v-berth and cabin area receiving extra coats.

Also, the hull sides, cabin sides, and cabin front all now have a coring of 6mm Soric material which adds strength and adds (a bit) of insulation for temps and sound. Mostly it was done for strength and quality but every little bit with regard to thermal and sound insulation helps.

Nice move Les. Hard to do all that after the build and most folks want it.

Great moves to make a higher quality boat. Can you share the laminate schedule on both the bottom and sides?

Hi Dr. Bob,

I'll have to share than when I have the final documentation. Since the hull that's being done now is the first one that's being hand laid and has the extra coring we didn't have a "set in stone" schedule going in but now that the hull as been done I'm due to get the full layup schedule soon.

If I don't post back here within the week or so please remind me! Smile

Les,

I'm impressed that you are using Mascoat Delta-T throughout the boat. Not knowing much about the product, I got onto the Mascoat website, and was astonished by the insulating and sound-deadening properties of this light-weight material. Add to that that you are using double coatings of the material in the interior cabin and berth, this will make for a very comfortable boat with less condensation issues.

Thanks,

Rich

Les,

As one of the first C-Brats to use the Mascoat product, you have made an excellent decision. After 4 years I finally painted it so it would be easier to clean. Why I waited 4 years I don't know. When I sold my 22 it looked like a new boat on the inside.

Les, Are you interested in doing Mascoat applications on existing boats?

Warren

Hi Warren,

Not for now. The application is being done at Townsend Bay Marine (TBM) when the hull is built so we're not set up to do it at the Cornet Bay location at all. TBM might do it on an existing boat but I think it would likely be an expensive thing to do through them if they have to work around the existing interior structure. I'll be happy to send you their contract info if you wish.

Ah, I might also mention that doing the Delta-T in a new boat is quite a lot different than adding it to an in-service boat. We used something on the order of 12 gallons of material to coat the entire Marinaut; it's not a "cheap" addition at all. I think the material is in the neighborhood of $60 to $65 per gallon.
