The usual suspects for a Maine C-Brat gathering did a totally different cruise this year, a two parter skillfully planned by the crew of Widget. First we cruised on Moosehead Lake for a few days. Then we trailered across the state to the coast and cruised out to Roque Island. For me it was 600 miles by trailer and 100 miles by boat in 6 days. Crescent Girl and Illusions had more road miles.
Four boat crews met in Greenville for our Kick-Off dinner at “The Stress Free Moose Pub”. A strong northerly wind abbreviated our Monday cruising, so we spent most of Monday in Greenville waiting for a lull. We anchored overnight in Doughnut Cove side by side with sterns tied to trees on shore on a gravel beach.
Tuesday was gorgeous weather. First cruise stop was the Mt Kineo golf course where we walked around the old resort grounds. A quick scoot across the lake to The Birches for lunch, and then anchoring in Socatean Bay for a moose hunt by dinghy. Hunky Dory’s dinghy sprung a leak and was rescued by Widget’s dinghy. A 4 mile cruise through prime Moose territory with no sightings. Spent the night tied stern to trees again in Big Duck Cove.
Wednesday started with pouring rain and fog. We hustled down lake about 20 miles to haul in teeming rain. Everything and body got drenched. Of course the rain slowed down after we were on the road. We drove to Winter Harbor where we had a surprise meet with another C-Brat, RCHINPA, on another Hunky Dory ( Captain D’s old boat).
Thursday’s weather improved so we launched and parked at the Jonesport Marina. A short cruise out Moosabec Reach to Great Wass Is, for lunch in the Mud Hole. Then cruising the Islands spotting countless seals before anchoring near the beach on Roque Island. Widget taxied all into the beach for an hour of beach combing. A single-hander had beached his 32 ft sailboat to clear his prop of a lobster pot warp. As usual there were lots of laughs passing snacks while rafted for sundowners and dinner.
Friday the fog moved in, so we slowly moved out back to the ramp and hauled to head home.
This was the most diverse cruise I’ve been on. From a pristine mountain lake to downeast islands and the unique Roque Island beach. Thanks to the crew of Widget for all their planning and support to make a memorable cruise.

Wow! Never had a C-Dory up there Rick but we've got a home on Little Kennebeck Bay that looks out toward Roque Island. The community we live in (when there) is Roque's Bluff. I'll put some pictures of our view out to sea in a little while!
Come on down to C-Bay sometime!
