i mounted the radar on the seaway 25 this weekend took it over to lake Pend O'rielle in Idaho and to my surprise it worked really good.
I have the Garmin 5208 Chart plotter and it has the coastal card in it put I don't know if that includes Canadian west coast waters or not. the numbers on the card are CVS 4GB SDHC just wondering if this chip would work or if i have to buy another one Any input would be appreciated

Hello Duff,

The numbers you provided, CVS 4GB SDHC, only describe the TYPE of card you have. You have a 4 Gigabyte, Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) card that may have been purchased at CVS.

What you need to determine is what software you have on the card, possibly BlueChart g2 charts

I'm not sure how you find out what version of BlueChart g2 you have on your card, but this site should help you to determine if you have the right one (once you find out what you have). http://my.garmin.com/mapCoverage/coverage.faces

Maybe others who are more familiar with a Garmin 5208 can provide more assistance.

When in doubt, scroll to the area you are wondering about... if you have detail showing, your card covers that.

Duff,
i have a Garmin 4208. It came loaded with all coastal USA charts. I use the SD card slot for two things, one loading upgrades to my laptop and on to a blank SD card which I plug into my laptop. Then plug the updated SD card into my 4208 to actually load the updates into my 4208. I just bought a blank 4 gig SD card for this purpose.
The second use is if you are buying additional mapping such as Garmins inland lake chip. In that case you just plug the SD card into the unit and you can have the mapping for the area on that chip. I would remove the SD card from your unit and see what changes when you fire it up. Garmin mapping is proprietary so I don't think you can load a blank SD chip from another mapping source other than Garmin and have it actually work in your machine. I have been wrong. Smile

Duff,
One other thing when you turn on the Garmin a software version should pop up on boot up. Make a note of it, then visit the Garmin website and see if your unit is running the latest software, if not follow the described instructions for downloading updates to your computer and then to the SD card and then to your unit. Make sure when updating software to have any device connected to the unit turned on example radar, sonar, etc.
Happy Trails,
D.D.
