Does anyone have any good advice on how to keep minks out of my C Dory?
It is stored in a boathouse on fresh water. There is never any food on board.
I removed 3 babies that got in over the last couple of days. Fortunately the damage / stink wasn't too bad.
Momma mink got her babies back after I pulled the boat out of the water and cleaned it up in the driveway. Next time, I may not be as nice.

Good morning from Iowa,
We have never had Minks, however as fall and winter comes on rodents do try to come inside out buildings.
Maybe it’s an “old wives tail” but we make little cups of tin foil filled with moth balls which are placed randomly inside the building and one or two inside the boat.
Works very well, no rodents, worth a try might work for Minks.
Regards,

Me thinks, you need a wife with simpler tastes...
Come on, y'all - this guy was kind enough to lob us a slow one, right over the plate. There have to be at least a dozen more smart-a$$ responses. _________________ Will, C-Brat Nerd |

I was worried about critters getting aboard also, I plugged the 2 holes where hoses and cables come into the cabin with foam. I thought about using those stainless steel dish scrubbers jammed in there also. That worked on a rat problem in an old house I had once. Critters don't like to gnaw steel. I'd go that route with a known problem. The rest of the cabin is pretty tight but those two holes would let them in. Good luck George |

Last year I had a bear get in the boat. The solution to that was raise the swim step so it was at least harder to get in, scare the bejesus out of the the bear and owner, and move the shotgun closer. My wife has never wanted to wear the mink in the boat so that hasn't been an issue.
Just how does a mink get in the boat? _________________ Tom

Don't you mean you want advice on how to GET minx onto your C-Dory? Oh wait a minute, you're referring to the other kind.
Ha ha - sorry that was a lay up!
Bottom line will be a cover to prevent it. Perhaps others can suggest other remedies. _________________ Captain Matt

Put fly paper where they enter. It works with raccoons. _________________ MartyP

The fly paper just might work. I made a duct tape minefield to train the neighborhood cats to stay off of my Jeep seats. |

As previously posted, moth balls are a good idea.
They have worked for me with various & sundry pests.
Steel wool works nicely, as almost no critter will chew through it. If you find a hole anywhere fill it with steel wool. Neither mice nor minks...
There is also the option of going with the sticky paper that catches mice, but ONLY if you want to kill whatever gets caught on the paper. I've always considered that method to be rather inhumane, but would employ it before allowing any critters to damage C-Gypsy! |
