I have a lowrance chartplotter w/external GPS that can provides nmea 0183 output to other devices.

I'd like to connect this output to both my VHF radio for emergency positioning info and my Yamaha fuel mgt meter for speed info. Both the radio and the fuel meter have single gps input wires.

Do I need to do anything other than connect the nmea 0183 output wire to the two input wires or is it more complicated than that?

You should be OK with two units which require simple sentences....but one never knows. Sometimes different brands don't work as well as they should. For example I have Lowrance GPS and a Standard Horizon GPS. The SH GPs works fine with the Standard Radio--the Lowrance--not quite as well...

The NEMA transmit wire from the GPS should be connected to the NEMA receive wire at the radio. There should also be a signal ground that needs to be connected. Ditto for the meter.
