I just tested my new 4 blade Honda 4X15X17 aluminum props today on the ShirleyMae....And whooaaa...it runs like a whole new boat...presses you back in your seat like a speedboat out of the hole! Lots of torque...and the top end fully loaded is at 6000rpm...what difference.....Now I will feel more confident going up 12 Ft swells! Its seems to run smoother and quieter too and seems to rooster tail less. Those 4 blades really grip the water.
My Tomcat came with
Honda 3X15X19L Stainless Steel Props ..They are now retired looking for a new home.

Dick,

I might be interested in those props. What do you want for them?

Morning........

Question on how you determined to change out your existing SS props to this 4 blade arragement on your Honda 150's..........
I am taking both of my 3 blade props in for alignment this week,
so would appreciate your input before talking to our local prop shop.

Thanks.

The rule of having the Right pitch/type props for my Honda 150s on the Tomcat was told to me like this.
If you cannot reach 6000rpms @ full throttle with your full boat load. You need to go down on pitch ...a notch I went down from a 19 to a 17..but also took it a step farther with the 4 blade rather than 3
I could never reach 6000 with the factory props...and my boat struggled to handle large swells in the open ocean especially at lower speeds. Slow response out of the hole too.Its scary not to have the power when you really need it! Now it feels like my boat is on steroids. I was told that in addition to the lower 17 pitch that the 4 blade would give me even more power out of the hole.
And it sure did. My dealer told me that if I did not like them at the sea trial that I could bring them back or for different ones to try as long as they were not damaged. Find a good dealer that has a trial policy for props. That way it's a no brainer.
Also I heard some advantages about the Aluminum props over SS besides the are way cheaper price@ $165 each. With Alum props if you whack them on rocks the Alum will be damaged but it will save your drive shaft. SS has no give. Also was told they..being lighter... are easier on you lower unit when shifting into gear.
Another thing with the 4x14.5x17...now on only one engine I went alot faster and was able to get up on a semi-plane unlike the old 3x15x19's

Cheers
