I actually think my 2hp Honda could plain the 45lb Alaska Series 240-TDS with just me and a 4 foot tiller extension. Have not had the courage to let my 10 year old son take it for a spin, the Honda does take a little getting used to. However, it would be fun to see how fast the little dink could go with a 95lbs kid at the tiller; the engine shutoff tether might come in handy.

Hi Dave:

Here are some reviews on the inflatables you are interested in. Maybe this will help you come to a decision.

Both excellent choices. You will be happy with this boat and motor.

We had the Achilles LSI-260 on our CD22. It slid (right side up) under a high radar arch that was on 1 1/2" Starboard blocks. It was the maximum size dinghy that could fit on the roof and not hang over. We used a 6hp 4 stroke Merc for it and as our get home engine but with 2 people in the dinghy, it really did not want to plane off so lower HP would have been fine. When we sold the CD22, we kept the dinghy and it will go on the new boat.

For lifting the dinghy, we had a Garhauer davit on the radar arch which made loading the dinghy a breeze. We had a second mount in the corner of the cockpit and installed/removed the OB prior to moving the davit and lifting the boat. All in all, a great dinghy and a very effective set up for handling it.

Jim

That is a nice setup you have. My radar is on a stalk on the cabin top, so that precludes me from putting an inflated dinghy on the roof. We will be using ours only sporadically and will have it deflated while on board.
