We took a little drive today to have a look at the boat ramp and check out the lake. Absolutely beautiful. Anyone here ever fish it? We'd like to try it as our "the straight is too crappy today so let's hit the lake" water. Supposed to have big trout. _________________ "Life's too short to hunt with an ugly gun"

Rick,
Here's something I found regarding special regulations on Lake Crescent. Good luck!

Hey Rick,
What did you think of the launch facility on Lake Crescent? Did you get to check out both sites?
I have looked at the lake there and thought it would be a fun cruise. Maybe a good place to get some good boat photos.
Harvey

I've used the launch by the lodge many times - it's fine. Helps to have two people as the dock is down a bit from the walkway, but I've done it single-handed just about every time. Water in the area isn't terribly cold, especially in the summer - so I just walk the boat back in the water with shorts and waterproof sandals until I'm close enough to toss a line up to the dock. _________________

Yep - In Washington, it's waterproof socks with your waterproof sandals. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Yep, I knew there were special regs, like single barbless hooks and catch and release only, but I didn't know about the "no downriggers" rule. They probably put that in place to prevent people from actually catching anything, since the little info I've learned is that the fish stay deep and it seems like a fair amout of controversy about them and the management, or lack of. Two ounces is all you are permitted. Wonder if lead core line counts? I saw somewhere online that it was difficult to postively identify a Beardslee Trout unless you examine it very closely and know what to look for. Can't find the darn web page know, though. Makes me kind of wonder how someone can snap a photo of one underwater and say "this is one." Heck, I don't know.
Yes, the ramp looked good. We only checked out the one at Storm King ranger station since it is in the middle of the lake and was easy. We're certain to spen a night now and then swinging on the hook. I just can't get over how clear the water is...unbelievable. Felt a bit chiily to me, Bill, but then we DID just move from down south. |

Hey hey...where's my Red Boat respect, ol' man? Sheesh...been payin' plenty of taxes in your fine state for 7+ years now, but guess I'll have to put up with that CA abuse for another year.
Besides - I was wearing Keens long before all the Brats found out about them. Converted Catman to them as well, and you can't get any more Washington than that ol' hippy. |

It is my understanding that that overnighting on the lake in a boat is not permitted. I've not seen that in writing but have been told that on several occasions. |

Geeze, it just keeps getting better. I'll call the park HQ and get the lowdown. No wonder there was only one boat on the lake on a sunny weekend afternoon. |

Take a tip from Yogi - lack of crowds on this gorgeous lake, ain't a totally bad thing.

That's a nice pic, Bill. Something tells me if Fergus was onboard, there'd be no doggie napping!
After a few calls to the park, I finally got the answer. Sleeping overnight on a boat is not permitted on Nat'l Park lakes. The reason given was that they didn't want people dumping waste and there would be lots of boats. Funny, though, the ranger also said you can stay out on the lake all night, you just can't sleep...pretty funny. Oh, well, it's the gov't! |
