Hi,

I'm looking for some sage advice regarding bottom paint. Unlike many of the folks here I boat almost exclusively in freshwater lakes. I trailer the boat and/or keep in on a lift so it is not typically in the water for more than a couple of days. I have not had any problems with bottom growth given this type of usage. However, I am thinking about painting the bottom to improve the look of the boat. It is a 1989 cruiser which has accumulated the normal scrapes and aging.

I'd like a paint that is relatively easy to prep/apply and that will hold up to trailering. Also, in the future I might do some coastal cruising so I don't want to apply something that will be a problem done the road if I need to apply anti-fouling part in the future.

Does this sound reasonable or should I just learn to love the unpainted boat for its low maintenance.

Any thoughts/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Karl

I personally would still put on a barrier layer of epoxy; It is easy to put one before bottom paint--later very difficult. I like Vivid by Petit. Even though I live right off Perdido Bay, the water in our Bayou is fresh--and I am using Vivid on the Caracal--holds us well, does fine with trailering.
