during the recent rains, the ohio river, like many others, rose to high levels. as the waters receded a 4 to 5' dead bull shark washed ashore.
now this is not the first time a bull shark has been found in my neck of the woods, but never the less doesn't make me want to sit on the swim platform and cool off my toes. i'll let byrdman do that. think i need to borrow jim's shotgun, just don't want to use those 3 shells he's been holding in his mouth for the past 4 years!

first of all, that's not Jim, it's Joe.... And maybe the B.S. is what Pat was carrying in the back of his truck that made his trailer lights malfunction. Rolling Eyes

From the National Parks Conservation Association:
"The second-most dangerous in U.S. waters is likely the bull shark, a large (up to 12 feet), aggressive animal that is the only shark species to regularly enter fresh water, traveling up the Mississippi River as far as the Ohio River.

These are also found in some fresh water areas in Florida-and other rivers along the Gulf Coast. However, they are relitatively rare that far up the fresh water rivers.

I have read documentation that they were as far up as St Louis, but had not heard of them in the Ohio... Be careful where you dip your tootsies!

two of my favorite shows are deadliest catch and planet world's river monsters. this week's episode on river monsters was reporting on the bull shark living and breeding in fresh water rivers, way inland. then yesterday our local channel 19 news caster reported on the washed up bull shark on the ohio river. i did hear about a fisherman in st. louis catching a large bull shark. as a child i had heard stories of local divers diving at our dams to make repairs and reporting having seen 200 pound catfish, ok, now they better take a speargun or joe's shotgun.

When I was a kid someone caught one about 40 miles down the Saint John's River from the Atlantic. That was a few years ago. Laughing
