Feel free to learn from/criticize my documentation of the lazarette replacement project.

Quote:
Lots of my fellow C-Dory owners have expressed dissatisfaction with the factory-installed hatches covering the cockpit lazarettes. The trouble is that the stock hatches are not designed for horizontal installation. They collect water in the gap between the hatch and its frame; when you open them, the water spills INTO the locker!

So the clever C-Brats have identified a replacement that fits into the existing hole and works much better. I got mine this week, and decided to tackle the replacement project now, while the boat is in my driveway.

Step 1: Remove screws.

Step 2: Gently separate hatch frame with plastic putty knife/scraper/spatula.

Step 3: Gently pry the entire hatch/frame assembly up off the deck.

Step 4: Assess the damage. Look at the screws you removed for signs of rust, and examine the (sealed) balsa-core for signs of rot.

Does anyone have a pair of the Imtra hatches that they bought from Joel and didn't use? I am going to replace my hatches on the 22' and am looking to buy.

Not to horn in, but just in case you don't turn up any from anyone here, I'll just mention that I ordered a pair through Defender this summer. Although they were a special order, Defender found them without fuss (I gave them the part number I'd found here on C-Brats) and had IMTRA drop-ship them to me. The price was $64.99 apiece (they are close to $100 each if you order them from IMTRA's website directly). Shipping to the west coast was $11.75 for the pair. I had them less than two weeks after placing the order. Here are the numbers from Defender's confirmation to me:

Thanks Sunbeam. I'll go that route if I don't find them here on C-Brats.
