This may be a stupid question but how do you open the Bomar Hatch in the V-Berth. I undid the dogs and loosened all the knobs but it still will not open. Did not want to force it much. Thanks Tug

On C-Cakes I just rotate the latches so they are not blocking the hatch going up and unscrew the tensioning sleeves on the vertical supports, then push the hatch up and re-tension the sleeves. If your hatch has not been opened in some time it may just be that the rubber gasket is sticking to the frame and a little judicious use of a penetrant and a putty knife may help.

Sometimes the windows can stick if not used often.

Loosen the knobs then push against the window on the side farthest away from where the window 'shocks' meet on the side of the hatch.

I splashed this past weekend and your note reminds me to reapply some lubricant on my windows.

You may have some corrosion around the hinges. If the dogs and the tube are loose, then it should open right up with a push toward the front--or pull up from the deck, on the aluminum frame. I like to use on the teflon lubricants--such as SuperLube spray. This acts as both a lubricant and cleaner. I spray it on the hinges, and into the tubes, as well as taking the knobs off the tubes, and spray into the thread holes.

Remember that the dogs have to completely clear the frame--and the knobs in the tubes completely loose.

Work it very easily--so that you don't break anything--and be sure that each piece is free, as you move it gently.
