I all. First thanks for all the help I have already gleaned from this site.
Now I am finally getting cushions made for our vee. But we are having a terrible time deciding what material to have them made in.
Vinyl seems easy to clean and very waterproof (condensation in our vee is an ongoing winter problem). But some kind of mildew resistant fabric (somthing like subrella) seems like it would be more comfy to sleep on.
PLEASE any and all input, comments, or experiences appreciated.
Thanks again |

I don’t think you’ll find a better product than sunbrella. Consider using memory foam, I think a few brats have re-done there v-berths using the stuff. I’m not sure how it holds up in a marine environment.
I went out and bought a mattress pad to toss over our factory cushions in the V, a real improvement. |

If you do a search of the site, you'll find some useful information about different materials to put on the v-berth walls to help reduce the condensation problem. There's also good advice on strategies to reduce condensation in the cabin as well in climates such as yours. _________________ Rick & Shirley

I have used a product called Hypervent mattress layer found at Fisheries Supply in Seattle that goes under the matress. Really like it. It provides air to pass under the matress and do away with condensation many boats get in that area. _________________ Ted & Donna |

We did this too; two bad backs already. Nothing fancy either. I just throw it down (over the foam) and put a sheet over it which is tucked under. Really makes the berth more comfortable and you don't feel the joints between pads.
As far as pad replacing, make sure to check the foam. There are different densities, stiffness vs softer etc. I like the feeling of the Sunbrella vs a vinyl which can be cold. But putting a memory pad etc over the vinyl might make that point moot. JMO... _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

I have owned boats with both vinly and Sunbrella. I prefer the Sunbrella. It is easy enough to clean (wash), and is not any more mildew prone than other materials. I have also put pads of memory foam over the base cushions. I would not make the cushions themselves of memory foam. _________________ Bob Austin

Correct there Dr. Bob. Memory foam will bottom out - unless it is ridiculously thick. I had some mattresses made for an RV, used 3" of memory foam and 3" of a med. density foam on the bottom. Nice bed, but need a hard hat in the v-berth. _________________ Dave W.
