I don't see the downside of arches and would have one to hold up a sun awning if for nothing else. I am talking of a stern mounted arch. The extras are: kayak carrier, radar mount, antenna mount, clothes line, solar panel holder, anchor light, spot light etc.
As you can see at the photos, Jammin is, if anything, "over arched"

Hey Pat! I saw some neat arches at the show, and one particular set caught my eye... because the front mount had pins & the back mount had swivel mount as to let the arch back when traveling....or attempting to go under a bridge on the waterways.... My need would be for the radar to clear a roof mounted AC unit. I will look for the photos I took at the show. |

Hi C-Brats
We are Bill & Chris Carli from Friday Harbor, and we just purchased a cd-25 at the Seattle boat show. We ordered a radar arch, because they are so handy to put all the stuff that you want sticking out of the top of the boat. However I don't know why people mount them at the aft of the cabin then place them so high ( looks rather !!!!) so a dinghy can be stored under the arch. We are thinking of putting the arch all the way forward, and having it only 6 to 8 inches above the cabin top. That way all dinghys ( we like hard rowing dinghies ) can be slid right on top of the pilothouse from the cockpit. I think the only reason that the arch is aft is tradition due to fisherman wanting their fishing poles up high and out of the way.
Also just to mention that we have been life long sailors who are switching to c-dorys. They really are such beautiful boats.
Anyone cruising into Friday Harbor, please contact us, email us for contact info.
thanks

Hey Bill and Chris, welcome to the fray, or is it frey. Whatever. I/we(actually it was Kate) also just ordered a 25 to replace the 22. We live on Guemes Island. Love going up to Friday Harbor for lunch. Actually love going anywhere on the boat for lunch, or overnight or or.....
Pat and Patti (Crab queen) on Daydream, and Jim and Laurie on Laurna Jo did the same. So there will be a lot more 25's running around the San Juans in the future.
We all have ordered the tall arch. I don't fish, just like the look of the arch on the rear of the cabin. Kind of balanced looking for my mind. But that's the fun of the C-Dory. Do what is right for you and everyone else can appreciate the differences.
Looking forward to seeing you out and about. _________________ David and Kate
