Does anyone know what the tightening torque should be for the thru bolts on the main motor.I just installed a transom support plate for the upper bolts for the main motor and am unfamiliar with with how much torque can be applied to a fibreglass transom. The bolts did not seem to be torqued too tight and were easily loosened with just a wrench.I usually tightened the thru bolts as tight as i can by hand on Aluminum boats but i do not want to crack the gelcoat or worse by tightening the bolts too tight. Thanks Tug |

There is no specified torque on transom bolts. You want them snug, as tight as you can easily get with a simple wrench, and use antisieze compound on the nuts. If you use a plate to distribute the load on the inside of the transom, you can take the torque up to 60 lbs, but usually 20 lbs is plenty. _________________ Bob Austin

That is kinda what i figured , tighten with a wrench nice and snuge but was not sure about fibreglass. I will re-check with a torque wrench to see how far i am off from 60 lbs/torque. Thanks good information. Tug |
