This event is in New York City near the USS Intrepid memorial on Saturday 7 November. I cannot attend.

I have two tickets and because security is very tight, your name must be on the ticket. I have to provide names soon so, if you want to attend, ask shortly.

USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) is a brand new Amphibious ship about 800 feet long and has steel from the twin towers in the bow. This will be a big, important event and, if you have never been to one, will be remembered forever. (or even if you have)

E-mail or PM me for particulars.

Charlie

Charlie, I REALLY wish that I could attend, however too many miles and work interfere with this possibility. It would additionally be of significant interest to me as it is near the USS Intrepid which is the carrier that my father served on in the Pacific in WW II.

Thank you for your generous offer!

Blase, I responded via e-mail. Get me those names and we'll give it a shot, may be too late but we'll try.

Well, this looks as if it was just one big con job! I went overboard to get the tickets sent directly to him in time to get there and he never responded back that he got them, nor to a couple of e-mails, PMs, and the last post as to how it was. What a disappointment, will never do this again for someone that I don't know well on this site.. His e-mail had a

.purdue.edu extension and looked legitimate...

Takes all kinds... Sad

Charlie: You did a good thing in attempting to make something nice happen and give someone a chance of a lifetime. Feel good about that.
For sure wish it was when I could have made a quick trip to NY as I would have done this in a heart beat. When out in San Diego, got a couple of our local C-Brats to take me out in their boats..and saw the Reagan prior to it's official commisioning. What a great trip... what a great opportunity.

Those are just the kinds of things we can enjoy by helping out other C-Brats. Now, having a wonderful wife that has been in college administration for 25+ years.....if ya want to send me the individual's entire email.... I will be glad to help you out.... Mr. Green

Hummmm.... how many C-Brats are there now...and if each of us sent him an email about every other day...well...that would be a lot of junk mail....and a reminder.

Thanks for posting the pics of the ship coming in. I love the twin towers.

They should hold court for those rag heads out at sea on this vessel rather than letting them in the streets, city, state of NY.

Tortuga/Matthew:

Sorry Man... I try not to use the "F" word on this forum or in life often and did not include it in my statement as ladies, children and grandchildren read this stuff enjoying our boats and fellow C-Brats.

My 30 minutes to edit is up... or I would just take the statement out.

My point was to thank a friend who was attempting to do the right thing and help someone enjoy a great opportunity by giving them hard to get tickets to a very special event. Sorry you got all choked up on two words in the entire message.... and, I guess I could have held that comment out...but, I guess it has just been all bottled up inside me watching the news of late.

I guess doing what I did for over 27 years and seeing what you do we more than likely word things a bit differently at times. Thanks for what you do it looks like some neat stuff. Lets focus on what we have in common, enjoy the freedoms we have in our Country, and cheers to the sailors, marines, and soldiers who will serve our Country on the USS New York. May all their days on board be safe.

Charlie... thanks again for attempting to make those tickets available for others to enjoy.

Byrdman,

First of all, thank you for the 27 years of your life that you dedicated to the service of your country which, in turn, continues to give everyone the right to free speech, whether it is politically correct or not. When I was in college in the late 60's, it was the bastion of free speech. When I returned to teach on the college level in the early 90's, I found that free speech was pretty much gone, unless it was the "right kind", meaning only the politically correct kind.

Rather than the "offensive term" that Byrdman used, I suppose that he could have substituted "cowardly murdering scum." Alleged, of course. The fact that nearly 3,000 of our fellow citizens were killed as they went about their normal peaceful day is not alleged, but a fact. If this causes anyone, and especially someone with a strong military background to stray from politically correct language, I can understand it.

For the last two days I have been pondering the wisdom of posting this, realizing that this might not "be nice" and not on the topic of boating, but I feel that Patrick has earned and deserves my support and that is my intent in posting this.

This will be my last post on this thread.

Respectfully,

Nick

Actually, "cowardly murdering scum" I can live with -- because it suggests that our security concerns are directed at those whose actions represent a threat rather than those who dress differently. And that's the point I suppose of my comment. A little background:

Last Friday I spent the day at my children's school celebrating Thanksgiving with a traditional Thanksgiving feast at a local park. Lots of kids, families, food, great activities, all focusing on how thankful we are to have a land of bounty, freedom, and diversity. One of the families was traditionally dressed, with mom in a burka, and the little girl running around in a head scarf. One more loving family amidst a community of loving families.

As I often do at the end of a long day I logged on to C-Brats to get my fix; and as I often do I look for those posts that are unique. I was delighted to see the posts of the USS NEW YORK and especially delighted to see the photos that Marty posted. And, as I always enjoy Byrdman's posts I read his as well. And, was just sad to see that as we celebrate this amazing new ship we sometimes forget that with it comes an awesome responsibility. No offense to Byrdman as I certainly don't presume to know how to describe our complicated world any better. But, I hope that as we struggle to find our way forward to peace and prosperity we remember that our great nation is founded on the principles of justice and tolerance -- and indeed our current conflicts are themselves wars over justice and tolerance.

As this doesn't appear to me to be a controversial statement I hope I am not sliding into politics. I follow all of your posts gentlemen, and I have nothing but respect for you and the other great folks on this site. And as you might imagine, as a college professor from southern California I certainly don't follow this site because I expect everyone to share my opinion! But I do value the opportunity to share it from time to time, as I value the opportunity to hear from others with different experiences and different views.

Respectfully,

Matt

I'll not get embroiled in the last discussions but....

The guy that got my tickets used his own name, Blase Knabl. I have his address. He told me he was a navy vet, had been stationed on an old LPD. Found him on Facebook, no doubt that he's the same guy, same e-mail address. Turns out he's a Junior at Purdue, no navy Vet he. There are two Blase Knabls on FB but it looks like the same guy.

Never again...
