I have read, and read, and read some more, and been through many, many of the photo albums. Now I need a C-Dory ride to help me make my decision to buy.
Does anyone in the Northeast have a 22 or 25 C-Dory in the water still that could take me and my wife for a short spin?
We are mostly in RI and Buffalo NY and points in between but would happily travel from ME to VA to make this happen. I confess, it's the slop/chop/water noise I have read so much about and need to experience first hand (please note I did not call it an "issue"!). We have some time in small open boats in downeast Maine (Roque) and Cape Cod and are well aware that nothing pounds like an old Whaler! We often run around in our 20 foot Lund Alaskan in Buzzards/Narragansett Bays and I imagine that hull is similar but much, much lighter and far more tender.
Anyway, we would love a ride, and will bring the cheese and crackers, and maybe even some gravlax!

CH, we're in VA and it's a long way but would be glad to take you out any time. Currently have a TomCat (on a lift) and a 16 Angler (in the barn). Just came back from DownEast Maine, Roque Bluffs, near Machias.

My last boat was a 2002 20 foot Lund Alaskan, dual console which we had for seven years. We sold it after purchasing the C-Dory this Spring. It had a 90 hp Honda. Handling was not all that different than the CD although the boat was much lighter as you say and, of course, faster. At higher speeds the Lund handling was more secure than the C-Dory which gets a little unsteady at 30 mph. The CD planes much sooner at lower speeds. In my view the CD does not pound as much as the Lund if you use the engine trim and trim tabs to keep the bow down.
With the cabin door closed on the CD you can definitely hear water on the hull below but it is a pleasant sound to me. With the Lund all you hear is the engine, even with the relatively quiet Honda.
My very first boat was a 1967 (I believe) Whaler 16 foot Nauset (sp) so I know what you mean by pounding. That was a great boat though.

cheese and crackers? Now if you had said cheese cake, then we could work something out!  Iam a little far from you but would offer up a ride if you ever got out here with a chesse cake in hand.

Add to that offer a ride on the Lower Ches. Bay, out of VA. Beach, VA.,
WX permitting, or the inner Lynnhaven Bay area of VA. Beach.

CH: Jump on one of those cheep Southwest flights to Nashville.
Down here we have a mix of owners/boats that stay water ready.
Brother Mike has a CD22.
Down the river a bit, the Brigners have a CD25.
Between them on the water, I have a Rosborough RF246.
Check out the site for a gathering here that will depart the Mt. Juliet area on the Cumberland River with folks launching their boat on Wednesday prior the Thanksgiving. Hey...maybe Linda and Patrick can bring down their CD22 that is for sale...take one last cruise...
One thing for sure...is we love these boats...and, we boat 12 months out of the year. But, we do live far enough south that the water does not freeze....on the river....very often or very long. Some of the nicest days are when it snows...
Or... wait till spring and watch this site for gatherings up your way.

... and sorry I was away from the computer for a bit.
We wish we could visit all of you and learn more about your boats. We may well make it to northern Virginia next week to visit family.
Charlie did you take a boat with you to downeast Maine? Roque Bluffs (and Roque Island) is one of our favorite places - I first went there as crew on a private sailing yacht 30 years ago in college and we have been several times since (my wife was offered a position at U Maine Machias, too). My wife likes to beachcomb, and I like to dig clams. Some days out there we don't even see another boat. Beautiful country!
Byrdman's offer of a Cumberland River trip sounds intriguing and I did look at Southwest flights to see if we could make it work.
It is getting a bit chilly up here and just about time to put our boats to bed for the winter (but not quite).
We are trying to line up a few C-Dory's to look at next week, and thanks again for all your kind offers!

I'd be happy to take you for a spin. But I have serviced and winterized the CD and put it away for the winter.
I have the boat stored halfway between Rochester and Buffalo on L. Ontario. I usually put into Lake at Golden Hill SP (which you can find on a map of NY).

No, we don't take a boat when we go up there but now that we have the 16 Angler, we may some time. If you get to NoVa, give us some notice and we'll be glad to take you for a ride on the TomCat. Send me an e-mail and/or a PM and we'll trade phone numbers. Our home up there is in Duck Cove, not far from RB and the park. One of our favorite "beaches" is Jasper Beach, down past MachiasPort, I'm sure you've been there. We bring back some rocks for the garden each visit.

Add Trim Tabs and Permatrim - you'll have less than "normal" slop/chop/water noise. We came from a 21,000lbs tug that had very little noise - our CD22 with trim tabs and Permatrim is basically the same.
