I've just purchased a new C-Dory at the Seattle Boat Show and need to have the lettering done for her name.
Any suggestions on a reputable, high quality, local company that can help create and install the lettering?
Thanks,

Hi Gary,
Congratulations on the new boat. I used a company called Prism Graphics Inc. and was quite satisfied with their product. They have a web site called prismvinyl.com. I saw them at the Seattle Boat Show again this year.

Gary, I used the Boat US/West Marine letters. Ordered on line, the colors were true and installed them myself. Lots of fonts/colors/sizes. Got both sides for under $100 and pretty quickly too.
You can see the results in my album. They came in a sheet, correctly spaced and were a breeze (if you're careful) to install.

I ordered this lettering off the web. Black with gold shadow. Matches the C-Dory lettering on the side somewhat. Came in a tube. Easy to apply.

Hi Gary,
I'm not sure where you live (don't see it mentioned on your "profile"), but the lettering for Sea Shift was done by Sign Pro in Mt. Vernon, Wa. (May be viewed on page 4 of the Sea Shift photo album) I asked for the additional flames under the lettering and received the complete graphics for both sides of the vessel for under $100. If Mt. Vernon, Wa. is "GUD" (aka "geographically un-desirable") for you, I'm sure there would be other sign shops closer to where you reside.
PS.....congrats of the new vessel! _________________ Dave S.

I have a related question. What is the best way to remove my existing name on the 22. Got to do the de-naming cerimony (Dave?) and then I will be also in need of new lettering. So I am keeping notes here about all this. _________________ David and Kate

Removing vinyl decals is a pain, but it comes up all the time in RV forums. Get a heat gun or a good hair dryer and slowly heat the lettering. Eventually it will get warm enough to peel off if you're gentle and take your time. Too close and you'll damage the gel coat, so take your time. Did I mention TAKE YOUR TIME?
As an added note, most all of the local sign makers can do boat lettering because the equipment and the stock is the same. If you decide (like we did) to pick your favorite font and size, simply bring a CD with the TrueType font with you in case their computer doesn't already have it. Our guy was willing to put the name on if we hauled the boat down but we declined. $39 for two sets. _________________ Mary & Don Anderson

David, I removed the lettering from the 16' Sea Shift with the heat gun. If 'in you don't have one you are welcome to borrow mine. You can even pass it around to Pat/Patty and Jim/Laurie to use. The lettering came off impecccably clean.....(it helped that the vessel was always "garaged" under cover away from sunlight when not in use....so you couldn't tell that there ever was a name on the vessel).
As far as "de-naming", I'd be happy to try to accomodate with that......unfortunately all the upcoming dates of these future gatherings are conflicting tremendously with work and other commitments and by the time we get together, you guys will probably be at the helms of your new 25's.
(If you want to use the heat gun give me a call/page and you can "swing by" and pick it up). |
