For all that are interested the Snohomish River Delta Day Cruise will commence on Saturday November 7, 2009 at 0900 HRS. The tides are in our favor! (ie: high tides).
This is a one day cruise that will depart from the Everett, Wa. 10th Street launch ramp that will include an exploration of a few of the side channels of the Snohomish River as well as a jaunt up the river to the town of Snohomish.
When we return to Everett, participants may gather at one of the Everett Marina Restaurants for a no host late afternoon meal.

I like this cruise a lot, but it's important for people to know that there is no "destination" upstream where we can tie up and go ashore. It's more exploring on our boats and then meeting up back in Everett.
We can reenact scenes from Disneyland's Jungle Cruise. Or Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Or The African Queen. It's fun! _________________ Timothy R. R. Flanagan |

I'd be interested in this "excursion", Dave. Knowing nothing about the river, is the 25 capable of doing it? What about logs, hidden underwater obstacles etc? What time are you commencing? I think in my mind I have a different idea of what a "river" is; I think rocks, rapids and D.A.N.G.E.R. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Mark, as I stated in the initial post, this cruise will commence at 0900 HRS.
Yes, the 25' is capable of joining in on this cruise. In 11/04, the 27' C-Dory Hailleigh's Comet participated in this cruise. Part of the joy of owning C-Dorys is the shallow draft of our vessels, that enable us to explore these bodies of water. If you click on "Photos" at the header of this page and then select "Cruises and Events", page 4 has an album of the 11/04 Snoh. RD cruise and you'll see Hailleigh's Comet.
As with any body of water, there is danger beneath us. The delta cruise is always scheduled during a period of high tides in order to lessen the possibility of striking underwater obstructions. I always hand out maps and brief the participants prior to our departure about "known" areas of concern (ie: areas on a course to be avoided). You will be surprised at the depths that are found is areas of the delta. (During the summer it is not uncommon for water skiers to ply these waters).
Years ago, Steamships traveled between Everett and Snohomish.
Most likely, the only thing that would cancel this cruise would be if we were to experience a time of major flooding and found that logs and other debris were being "flushed" down the river. If that is the case, we'll just have to improvise with "plan B" and do a day trip to Kingston, or Edmonds, or Langley, or Coupeville, etc. Groups choice du jour.
Time permitting we can also accomplish any Christenings that are requested.
P.S. Mark, when you drive across the bridge at the East end of the Hewitt Ave. Trestle and look North, you can see some fairly large sailboats that are moored along the delta banks. Their drafts are considerably greater than ours. |

I just PM'd our esteemed C-Brat guru, Tyboo with a request for a sign up sheet. I wanted to be certain that a least one vessel other than ours was going to be able to join in on this wonderful adventuress cruise....
(oops....should read..."adventurous" as the other spelling refers to "a woman who schemes to win social position, wealth, etc., by unscrupulous or questionable means".... ) |

OK, Dave. You have me convinced. I'll check the work calendar and see.
I didn't notice the 0900 start time, which was my fault. In my defense, my lack of knowledge about rivers is understandable considering my birth place. To be honest, they scare me. I had one bad experience while tubing w/ Meredith down the Stilliguamish. Had it been her and not me, I'm not so sure the outcome would've been favorable. That said, a lazy cruise up the Sno sounds like fun. |

Thanks for the idea, Merv. Looks to be a fun day and I'm assuming the Everett lauch will NOT be as crowded. |

No need to apologize. I had a "thought provoking" wake up call when I was in college on the Yellowstone River in Montana. I take NO water for granted. That is why you will always see me wearing a PFD, even on a C-Dory. Ask me some time and I'll tell you about it. (I know I've already "spoken" about it previously on this site). (Even had an episode on the Stilliguamish once....but I had my PFD on that time). |

My experience was a learning lesson. I naively (and foolishly) was NOT wearing any flotation. "PFD? We're just going for a lazy float down the river?" Lesson learned. Could've been worse. Fortunately, my experience in the surf helped me maintain my head and not panic, even as I was running out of air. Long story..... |
