I had to access my deck-pump for another project and decided that I needed a better mounting setup for the cover than dabs of 4200.

My search led me to an interesting product that uses adhesive to surface-mount hardware fasteners instead of drilling holes. Possible uses could be my pump cover, fuel tank brackets, and transducer brackets. The bond is supposedly stronger than the underlying substrate.
They're a little spendy for small projects because you need the fasteners, the adhesive, and possibly other accessories. But it might be useful for larger ones where the cost can be spread out.
BTW, I have no $ interest in this stuff.

You are talking about "Crazy glue"--I would not personally depend on it for any critical loaded fastening. There are better adhesives, including the epoxies.

I like the concept of attachment without resort to thru-holes but with the caveat that the selection be based on several factors:
1. How heavy is the load likely to be?
2. Are you securing a device critical to the operation or safety of the vessel?
3. Is the location subject to change in the near future?
4. Have you consulted the material manufacturer's data sheets to be certain that it meets his criteria for both application (how it's to be used) and the environment in which it will see service?

I've used 3M VHB double-sided tape for several different non-critical applications in the J.C.Lately with satisfactory results. I can choose the size of the area of contact to spread the load over greater or smaller surfaces; it tolerates (somewhat) the rought surface of the inside of the hull; the next owner can remove it relatively easily.
