I installed a Lowrance LMF 200 a while back to get fuel flow. In doing this I noticed it read 400 RPM's lower than the Suzuki analog tach. I'm inclined to believe the LMF is correct and the Suzuki gauge reads low. Anyone else experience this? It really isn't any big deal but in trying to tweak my prop I discovered the difference in readings.

Idle speed for a 90 hp Suzuki is 600 rpms. Do either of the guages read right for that? Might want to have a dealer put it on a computer and check it. I have heard in the past of people blowing there motors because the tach was wrong. Not limited to outboards. If you know someone who has an inductance type tach for tuning cars you can check it with that. They also make an instrument that you can put a peice of reflective tape on the flywheel shaft point the tach at it and get a reading. You could check that instrument by pointing it at a flourescent light can't remember that rpm. The meter is like one of these.

Thanks for the advice Jody the tachs read pretty close at idle but as the RPM's increase the difference increases. At full throttle the LMF reads 5,100 while the analog reads 5,500. I think the rev limiter would protect it from a over rev. Max on the 90 is 5,500.

If the LMF200 is plugged into the Suzuki computer, I would beleive it.

The LMF is plugged into the network and I think I'll believe it. 400 RPM' is really quit a difference if you are trying to tweak a prop.
