Hi, Jeff. I remember talking to you at Blakely when you were considering that move. Congratulations. The 22' Sea Sport is one fine boat.
I hope you know you're still invited to come play with us flat bottoms. Just don't forget the fish.

A little history please: What constitutes a "Hunky dory", and how is it different from my 86 22' Angler? I like the sound of that newer Honda, since I've still got the original 87 Johnson and tremble at the thought of a repower. _________________ David S

In a nutshell, the original model, introduced in 1979 was called a "Hunky Dory". The name didn't go over well with the public, so the manufacturer wanted to change the name to "Sea Dory". That name was already in use, so they changed it to "C-Dory".
The original manufacturer was Marben Marine, and there are still some original "Hunky Dorys" around, including at least one that belongs to this site.
We discussed this history within the last year, and if you put "Hunky Dory" in the "Search" engine at the top of the page, you should be able to find those posts and thread. Joe. _________________ Sea Wolf, C-Brat #31

Here's the central story exerpted from the last time around:
Name Origin Researchers:
Here's a excerpt from the C-Dog site about this same issue by Ken McCollough, their site manager:
From: C-DOGKen2 Sent: 4/14/2004 8:38 PM
I heard about the C-Dory versus Sea Dory distinction quite a while back, and the trademark change seems to hold up, from very early discussions.
This guy that I ran into last week said he was going even beyond that, and said that when the first boat was introduced at the Seattle Boat Show, it was named a Hunky Dory, and the name was not found to be acceptable by the shopping public.
I said I didn't think that was the case, but he said he was at the first show that these boats were introduced, and the Tolands discovered that the name wasn't well liked, so they changed to Sea Dory, ran into a trademark infringement, and went to C-Dory.
...........................
In addition, there have been a number of individual C-Dorys named "Hunky Dory" over the years. The "Hunky Dory part of the story above is interesting, but I've not seen official recognition of it from the manufacturer, or multiple instances of corroboration that would lead one to believe that it is established fact.
This topic is one of those that recurs regularly. Joe. |

Thanks for the help. I found a good discussion on the C-Dog site, which included a photo. At least from what I can tell of the photo of the boat afloat, it looks just like my Angler. I emailed Jeff off for photos and haven't heard from him yet, which leads me to believe that this Hundy Dory is probably already sold. |
