Hello everyone..
I am not sure if we will be having a sponsor for the gathering this year. Times are hard everywhere so I'm thinking that if we have a gathering it will be like everyone else does. We will all have to kick in some money to pay for one night of food and come up with our own things to do. So I thought I'd throw this idea out and see what happens. So if anyone is interested just let me know and we can go from there. Whittaker Point would love to have us back there again this year. So...let me hear from you if we are going to do this we need to start planning. Take care, Tracy

I know we would like to help with the NC C-Brat gathering in 2009. We had a good time at last year's gathering.

For the past 5 years, at the Chesapeake Gathering at Langford, we have not had a "sponsor".... We have always kicked in a few bucks, usually $15 a person to pay for stuff. Sometimes, Honda or a dealer has thrown in a few hats or something but never $$.
If you've had this in the past, consider yourselves lucky!!

Yes we have been very blessed that Mobile East has paid the bill for the last two years . Carrie and Gene have not said they won't cover the bill this year, but I thought if we could kick in some cash we could still have a gathering at Whittaker Pointe. I had heard that Buddy wanted to have a gathering at Little Washington. That is a very boater friendly place as well as Oriental. |

Hello everyone! I just joined this group today, 4th of July. My wife and I currently own a 24 foot Carolina Skiff, but have been looking at C-Dorys online.
From the messages I have read, you folks have a great group put together.
I don't know if this idea has any merit, but thought I'd put it out here, for all of you to ponder. Here are three places I believe would be a great place for your C-Dory rendezvous in North Carolina, depending on how many boats show up.
First, if just 6-9 boats were going to attend, I believe the campground at Lake Phelps (Pettigrew State Park)...............
http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pett/main.php
would be a great place to stay as a "base of operations". Lake Phelps has good freshwater fishing, and the camp boat ramp is only a few hundred yards from the camp sites. Every time we have stayed there, it has been quiet, with only 2 or 3 other campers there.
Besides Lake Phelps, the Scuppernong River is close by, (beautiful and secluded), as well as Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. On the opposite shore of the Alligator River from the refuge is an area named The Frying Pan; again, secluded and quiet. During our last trip there, we fished the Frying Pan for two days on 4th of July weekend, and only saw two other boats.
For a second possible location, if more boats were expected, is a secluded privately run campground on Garlington Island, adjacent to the North River Game Land.....................
http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/northcarolina/preserves/art5619.html
Pristine, with a a stand of virgin cypress, and much wildlife. Two ramps are close by........one on Indiantown Creek, another at the camp ground.
For those not wanting to sleep in their boats, or tent camp, they also have air conditioned rooms available. Here is the campground link........
http://www.northrivercampground.com/
Not far from North River Campground is the town of Coinjock, on the ICW, with fuel and restaurants.
The last suggestion is the best, in my opinion. On the Roanoke River, there are many elevated platforms in the Roanoke River that can be reserved ahead of time, for canoe and small boat campers. Some of these platforms are very large, and located in a wild setting. Two of these platforms are adjacent to each other (Beaver Lodge and Beaver Tail), and are designed to accomodate large group outings. Many boats could easily raft up, and sleep aboard, or opt to tent camp.
You really want to look at this link closely, and read the descriptions of all the platforms. Bring your cameras and fishing tackle. With the town of Jamesville and Plymouth close by, this area has the potential to be a yearly location for a rendezvous that everyone will enjoy, with fuel, accomodations, and restaurants not too far away, if you don't like to "rough it".

Even though we don't own a C-Dory, and live in VA, we'd love to attend, if the ball gets rolling. We do most of our boating in the Chowan/Albemarle watershed. We'd also be glad to help with putting this together.
Best regards, Jim in VA _________________ Just an old swamp rat. |

Is there a date set yet? We had planned to be at Edisto, SC sometime in September but would opt for the gathering. _________________ Snal~

Hi Larry, I think we should go with the last weekend in Sept. Some folks that were interested in coming down have already picked that week for their vacation. So lets stick with Sept 25,26,27th. We will get there a day or two earlier and possible stay a few days after the gathering. No sense in rushing a good trip !
I will check out the sites listed as well . It might be fun to go some place else. I do like Whittakers Pointe and the folks that run it. They have very good to us in the past. |

Hi Tracy I don't know if I will make it up again this year but if so pitching in for food and what ever would be a good thing. I was surprised to find that Mobile East picked up the tab for everything last year. I think Whittaker Pointe is a really nice place also and reasonably priced. _________________ marvin |

Linda and I would be willing to help and to kick in a few bucks to help defray the expense. 25-27 sept would be a good weekend for us. wonder if there is a spot in or near downtown washington or new bern. would be nice to try a new spot. Glad to see this on the web site. We are more than willing to help and pay our way . We have attended the Chesapeake Gathering the past 4 years, paid our share, and have had a great time. It is the gathering of the CDory owners that is important. We have made great friends at Oriental and at the Chesapeake. Don't let this stop. We need to continue to get together.
Good Luck

I have ask that we get a sign up sheet here for those that want to come for the gathering. I think the idea of having it in Washington is a good Idea. We don't know the waters that well up there but Buddy Water does. We'll need to find another marina as good as Whittaker Pointe. The covered shelter and clean showers is a real plus in my book ! I think 15 dollars each is a good number to go with. If we want tee shirts that will be extra. |
