From another list that I am on:

Quote:
Barely a month after announcing the latest generation of its BlueChart cartography, Garmin has announced a world-wide recall of all the new chart cards.

Errors in the depth data on the new cards may have been at least partly to blame for two boats running aground in Sweden and Denmark. So far, the problem seems to be confined to Scandinavian waters, but Garmin has tracked it down to changes in the production process, and say that they cannot be certain that other areas are not similarly affected.

As a precautionary measure, all customers who have bought BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision chart cards since April 2009 are being advised not to use them, but to contact Garmin or their dealer for a replacement.

When corrected versions of BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision are available, they will be issued to affected customers free of charge, but Garmin warn that this may not be until the end of the year.
Until then, Garmin is handing out last year’s cards (dated July 2008) as temporary replacements.

Garmin currently has a $200 cash-back offer with the purchase of a Garmin chartplotter and a Bluechart g2 Vision SD card. I just ordered a 440s, and am considering the g2 vision card with the $200 rebate. For anyone interested in the mid-atlantic large card (VUS512L), there is a discrepancy in coverage. The Garmin website describes northern coverage to include the full Chesapeake, but all of the other websites describe coverage beginning at the lower Chesapeake. I contacted Garmin support and was advised the June 2008 update does include the entire Chesapeake. The cards are about $100 less on other sites so I called SailNet and they assured me the card they sell is the 2008 version and will include the entire Chesapeake - they updated the description on their website. That is important for me, because the card will most of my cruising area.

Hmmmm. Confused I ordered one for my 276C that was labeled as "Western Canada" but included the entire Puget Sound, Vancouver, Desolution Sound, Inside Passage etc all the way to the Alaskan border. I figured it would work for now AND would also work on my [future] upgrade Garmin unit. I ordered it from Defender about a month ago. THey promptly told me it was back-ordered until July 7th. Now this. Mad

After researching it, I found out that various websites describe the same chart differently. It's all kinda confusing to a newbie GPS guy like me. I just want my 276C to function. Back to the drawing board.
