Wow, what a fun quick overnighter! We ran out Saturday afternoon to meet up with Russ and Toni, who have NOT been on vacation on Traveler for the last couple of weeks, at Chuckanut Bay near Bellingham, and a little later David joined us on Anna Leigh. Sundowners on the cockpit, a great dinner, great company...the next morning, capuccinos all around courtesy of the Mukka Express, a great breakfast, and time to say "Until next time!" A few pix...
Daydream, Traveler and Anna Leigh rafted.

Looks like fun. I guess now that David is half an off shore captain, he's going for that rugged look with the beard and stache. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Here is the story on the beard.
Many captains have beards. I have had my application in to the CG since Jan 24. this is taking much too long to process, so I am doing a reverse captains beard. I figured that as soon as I started growing my captains beard I would finally get my license. And then shave it off. WRONG didn't work out as I planned. Last week they called to ask if I had my TWIC card. This is an ID card that all persons must obtain at the cost of $135.00 +- for a five year card, who may have occasion to visit a shipping port. Truck drivers, vessel personnel, whoever. The date they choose to make this mandatory was March 15. I made an appointment to get my TWIC (Total Waste of Income Card) about 3 weeks ago. I was on my way to the office to get fingerprinted and photographed, yet again< (I already have a Homeland Security ID and Security Clearance for the CGAUX) when they called. So now I have to wait about 4 more weeks for that to process. And then the Merchant Marine Office will continue their process.
What a process. _________________ David and Kate

Pulled into the Chehalis WA Walmart this afternoon and spotted Traveler, 25' C-dory parked in the lot. Nice looking boat. Makes a guy want to get the boat out on the water after a long winter. |

Hi David,
I understand your frustration with the application process. I upgraded my license prior to the TWIC requirement (with the FIRST deadline of September of last year)... more fingerprinting, more background checks. At that time, there was talk of the TWIC replacing the background check by the Coast Guard. In our area, captains were told that without the TWIC, their licenses would be invalid... oh, OK, we'll exend that deadline. More inter-agency BS.
The beard looks good... very "salty". You may look like one of the guys from ZZ Top before this whole wait is done. I had one again for a while last winter, but shaved it off when I no longer was asked to "prove" I qualified for the discount at Denny's.
Sounds like a very pleasant time with the three boats in Chuckanut.
Best wishes,
Jim B. |

Pat & Patty,
Thanks for posting the pictures. We will always remember our "first" rafting, it couldn't have turned out better. Hope you survived your home improvement project and all is well. _________________ RUSS & TONI |

Here are all the pix from Chuckanut Bay - I rowed around in the dinghy and got shots from every conceivable angle, pick your favorite!
The home improvement project got done. There just might be a blog post coming out of it! Nothing is easy!

Thanks, Pat, for the pictures and narrative. I went right by Chuckanut Bay this May several times, but never pulled in. In fact, that Saturday when your 3 C-boats were rafted, I was in Squalicum, just a few miles away, putting in the finishing touches for hauling out, which I did Sunday morning at 6am, wihile you all were sleeping and dreaming of expresso and other coffee goodies.
Great to see all your smiling faces, having met you all at Friday Harbor and Anacortes this May.

Hi Charles,
At 6am no one was asleep but Patti, and she actually got up fairly early for her. Pat was already on his way to the beach with Baxter when I looked out. Toni and Russ' door was open and I was grinding coffee beans for my first boost into the new day.
This was of course followed by Pats making of cappacinos for everyone and then Patty and Toni making breakfast for us hard working retired (except for Pat) guys. |
