Someone tried to brake into the Wishbone. She held them off, tired them out, and then spit on them as they were running away. In the process, the lock and latch internal mechanism was sheared. I have tried at length to find the manufacturer of it....no luck. It is off a 94 22 Cruiser. The key says Alfa on it. I have called C-Dory on this a few times without much luck. I have pictures but haven't figured how to post them. I would like to replace with oem or a lock set matches perfectly, so I do not have to cut or saw. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Wishbone-
Is the "Alpha" the name of the lock, or only the name of a key blank manufacturer?
Does the lock or only the key say Alpha on it?
Look at the Perko lock selection and see if you have a Perko lock.
If this doesn't do it, send me the photos in an email, and I'll post them for you and also try to identify the lock!
Good Luck!

In a related vein, this question inspires me to ask: I have a cedar chest of my mother's in my garage, for which the key has been lost. Have tried a large number of skeleton keys and none work. Any ideas other than calling a locksmith out at $75? This is a chest from the 40s or 50s at least, I think, and has a very simple small (1/2" maybe) push-button lock (not the hinged kind seen on steamer trunks) with a keyhole to accept an old fashioned key.
Thanks,

As I recollect the earlier C Dory locks were made in scandanavia and the parts difficult to find. My locksmith made me extra keys for C Pelican but he had to basically cut an entirely new blank--not just modify the old one.
Any of these locks can be picked or at least drilled out and opened. I would suggest that you put a more modern lock on the door--such as the Perko mentioned above. _________________ Bob Austin

I had the same problem with my 22's key. Turned out that it's a Swedish company. I was able to order replacements from Perko, however, they were the most expensive replacement keys I ever bought! |

I also have a '94. The tag on my spare key -- which I believe is OEM -- is a company called Mobella -- with these phone numbers:
Sweden: +46 (0) 16 13 75 05
USA: 813-755-5656
Also check this company. I have no idea if these numbers are still good as they are from 1994.
Let us know what you find! Good luck!

The Jenny B is a 2005 with the Swedish Mobella lock. Almost impossible to directly replace. Since the problem I had was during the warranty period, C-Dory graciously sent me a new complete lock. After receipt I found the only damage was a plastic device used in the lock. Maybe a buck, tops.
I had ongoing problems locking it. then one day it shifted and I couldn't UNLOCK the door! (I could imagine accidentally doing that at sea with the tool bag under the sink.) Ended up taking the door out (it needs a special screwdriver tip) just to get in and fix the problem. Yes I should have simply replaced with a Perko lock. The Mobella is very sensitive and the door has to be perfectly hung to get the strike plate just right. Any pounding or flexing of the door can misalign it enough to cause even more problems.
If you can't find a Perko that fits, just a simple lockable latch will do.

Recently I wanted to make some spare keys for the boat. I decided to try and get actual Trioving keys to match the originals, but the company, like Mobella, is in Sweden. It seemed strange to me that a lock from so far away would turn up on the boat without a logical chain of supply, so I researched it. Turns out that locks, parts, and keys for both Trioving and Mobella can be obtained through Diamond/Sea-Glaze, the same company which manufactures the windows for our boats. They are located in Langley, B.C., just north of Bellingham, WA and their contact information is as follows:
DIAMOND/SEA-GLAZE MANUFACTURING LTD.
26995 GLOUCESTER WAY
LANGLEY, B.C.
CANADA V4W 3Y3
PHONE: (604) 607-0091 OR 1-800-770-0455
FAX: (604) 607-0092
e-mail: info@diamondseaglaze.com
www.diamondseaglaze.com/
I have had excellent experience with them on two occasions, once when I needed to find someone near me to repair a window, and once when I ordered the keys.

Here's a direct link to Diamond Sea Glaze's lock selection.
Click on the lock photo to see their various Trolvig and Mobella lock types, drawings, and parts lists.
Apparently, you will have to call or email them for spare key blanks once you identify your lock.
Hope this helps!

Good find Joe. I wonder if any of the windows shown on their website are replacements for any of the C-Dory windows? Anyone know?

Wow, you guys rock. Quite a few leads to follow up on. I am really trying to replace it with the original lock set so I do not have fuss with the door at all.
Much Much appreciated

Perko made the lock set on my 1990 22 cruiser. I have recently purchased a direct replacement. Easily available, even here in the great white north!! try west marine ??

While on the subject of locks. I have two #18 keys for the older
C-Dory Alfa lock which I would be glad to send to anyone that needs
or could use them. I acquired them as extras for an '85 Angler I had
at the time. The damn sure were an expensive key in their
day
Right now they're freebies. Let me know if anyone can make use of them. _________________ Mark on Mighty Bite |
