The tutorial is excellent and shows the proper crimpers. I use only Ancor double crimp ratchet crimpers (there is also a chinese imitation which I found and has adjustable jaws, I think I got it at NAPA).
Sneaks pointed out to me in a private post that a simplistic statement I made could be mis-interupted. It appeared that I meant that the only function of a fuse was to protect the wire--and that is certainly not the case. In this situation, my point was that an LED was basically the same as a light bulb and it didn't make any difference how much current went to it.
Don rightfully pointed out that in many cases the fuse will protect parts of a circuit from damage by being current limiting. An example would be the Wallas stove--do not replace a 2 amp fuse with a 5 amp fuse in the circuit board. Same for many electronics and motors, etc--in these cases the fues is current limiting, and protects the circuits. One should not go around putting in larger fuses than what is called for.
Also I have added a number of circuit breakers at the main battery/switch/ terminal blocks to comply with ABYC standards of fusing a wire within 7" of its power source. (battery in this case). I size the fuse/breaker by the current which I anticipate will flow, or what the manufacturer calls for. It is always prudent to carry specific extra fuses for all of the items on your boat. _________________ Bob Austin
