CBill,
In my experience the best "can't miss" time and area for salmon and halibutt would be from mid July through the end of August and fish off the west coast of Vancouver Island. I fish out of Ucluelet which takes a little trouble and time to get there, but well worth it if you can devote at least a week to fishing. I can't think of any other place, short of an expensive fly-in resort, where you can have an excellent chance of landing a 30+ pound salmon within easy range of a small trailerable boat. The halibutt do tend to be smaller 20-35 pound range however. _________________ Ken Trease

Thanks! I'll look at that a little closer. Do you take the ferry across? How expensive is the license?
Mr. Fisherman
I suspect those fish were caught out of Depoe Bay.
Thanks for the info - I'll be on the road in July!

Actually Newport....
Hope to see you down this way.
With the proposed closures we might not have any more combo days.... |

For info on the cost of licenses, fishery areas, openings, etc. go to the following Canadian Fisheries website:
http://www-comm.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/pages/sfg/default_e.htm
It might take a little searching..... but most of the info is there
Good Luck

Last year the annual license was about $90US. Yes I took the ferry from Tsawwassen to Duke Point (Naniamo). The ferry last year was about $100US for my truck w/camper and towing the boat. |

Thanks for the website Del,
I may make good use of it. I'm giving some serious thought to making the trip!
