Has anyone changed the shear pin on the stern thruster in R25 tug? If so did you find a simple way to remove then replace the motor? Spent most of the day removing the motor and replaced the pin. Am having aheck of a time replacing the motor.

Curious as to why you need to replace the stern thruster....malfunction?
What was the basic reason.

Is the thruster covered by warranty?

The stern & bow thruster have an electric motor mounted on the inside of the boat with the tunnels and props mounted on the outside. To protect the props and motors the connection between the motor & the prop has a shear pin. If some debris should get into the tunnel and jam the prop the shear pin breaks first rather than the prop/motor assembly. Very similar to a small outboard motor prop connection. This is not a warranty issue just a pain in the neck to change.

Thanks for the info.

I've never had a boat with thrusters until this one. I find the bow thruster seems much "stronger" than the stern, but perhaps that is just because it is pushing more, don't know.

I do know that i periodically anchor in shallow water and kind of feel around the boat to see if something is loose, or debris is in a tube, etc.
(I keep the boat in the water...no trailer).

With the windage on the 25 i'm sure i will grow to appreciate the thrusters.

From what I understand the rear thruster losses about 15% capacity because there are deflecter tubes on the exterior tunnel.
P.S. Finally got the whole system back together and running. Will update with my solution next week as we are leaving for Montauk, L.I. tomorrow morning.
