I recently became aware of this electric outboard. It requires a separate bank of batteries to run (i.e., does not have the battery built in like the Torquedo.) Here is a YouTube video of a sea trial. I would appreciate it if someone would give me a synopsis of the narration.

Maybe we will see an electric C-Dory in a few years!

Warren

they were seeing how fast it would go. Looks like top speed was 8mph or 8kts. they did not say which and at 55amps , not full throttle, they got 7.5 out of it. When the camera man moved to the back of the boat it really slowed down, but but his own admission hes 260 on a good day.

If the motor uses 55 amps in an hour, it will only last one hour for each group 27 battery (assuming 50% discharge) or 2 hours for each set of two golf cart 200 amp hour golf cart batteries. Generally small electric outboards make some sense when moving a sail boat in and out of a tight slip, that you cannot sail out of. For primary propulsion for a boat like any of the C Dories--not a perticularly good plan. There are some super effecient cat hulls which have been powered (across the Atlantic) with twin electric motors, solar cells and battery banks. But their "speed" was not much more than the currents and the push of the trade winds. Again, not real practical, unless as a cocktail cruiser-such as some of the "cocktail electric boats.

Maybe sometime, but not yet....for real cruisers.
