Is the accent striping below the rub rail and on the roof perimeter paint or part of the gel coat? How can I best match it for worn areas?

To get coast guard safety certified, does having the battery enclosed in the rear compartment qualify, or does it have to be in an isolated covered box within the compartment?

thank you, chris

The accent strip is part of the gelcoat. Not sure how you can fix a worn area.

I've had several coast gaurd inspections and they have never asked to see the batteries.

I believe you have to have the terminals "covered" so that if you drop a wrench on the battery, it won't short out. I think the battery box would qualify, the one that fits the battery tightly but just having them in the lazarette would not. Not sure if the USCG aux inspection covers that but there was a post here a short time ago about it.

Talk about funny timing, I actually got a voluntary CG Aux. inspection this morning and passed at the local Marina.

They never looked at or asked anything about my batteries. They did not check out the boat running lights either.

They did want registration, tags and proper state id numbers. CG approved life jackets and a throwable, a hand held orange distress flag, a manual sound device, a manual device for hand bailing (if bilge was inop.). You are supposed to be carrying a copy of the state and fed. boating regs. (which they provided). They also checked the expiration dates on signal flares in my kit.

They asked about the VHF, a hard wired horn, and a first aid kit which are not mandatory. The self contained porta is ok. They asked about cooking devices like a stove (na). outboards do not require bilge ventilation.
