It looks like if you have a C.G. license, and you wish to retain your license regardless of what or where you boat, a person will need to get the Transportation Workers Identification Card by Sept. The process sounds painless. More info-

Hi Ken,
In our area, you can save a few bucks by showing a recent license upgrade or renewal (apparently saves on having the background check redone). I plan to get the TWIC in the near future - I just received the license renewal/upgrade this week. It looks to me like one more "appearance of security." (my quotes) |

This is a bit off topic but -
maybe someday Homeland Security will get its act together and issue an ID that works over more than one discipline.
I have SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) clearance at my airport. This means the TSA ran my fingerprints and, as a result, local airport security (and the Feds) gives me access to
secure areas on the air side of the fence.
When I travel and I show my airport photo ID, many "old hand" TSA screeners pass
me right through like a member of a flight crew.
That said, I'll bet if I wanted a TWIC I'd have to start from the begining and pay all the requisit fees. _________________
