I have been considering getting a second anchor for my CD22....possibly a Danforth for use on the stern in tight anchorages or for putting the stern to shore.

My question is where do you store a second anchor on a CD22? The only idea I have so far is a plastic bin from walmart to hold the anchor, chain and rope. Is there a better way?

Thanks,

Rob

Can't help you on where to store an anchor but I have contemplated getting a second anchor that collapses. I've found a couple. One is the folding box anchor. Cabelas sells them. They are not cheap.

Or there's this one too.
THey call this one a "Greenfield Wavestake Folding Anchor"

Our 2nd anchor which is a fortress style (it does not break down) almost fits in the port lazarette. But we store it under the helm seat....we have the molded interior.

I have thought about getting a fortess which I believe, when folded, would fit in the port lazarette.

On our CD 22, 25 and Tom Cat 255, we stowed the stern anchors (two for Lake Powell, going stern to shore every night) under the raised foot rest located under the dinette. We find room for the rodes, and extra props there also. If we are using the anchor each night, we leave it in the splash well, or along the side of the cockpit behind an ice chest. We have used the Gardians (even though they did not give a good result in the tests, I did, when you push them into the sand, they do very well. For anchoring at Catalina etc, I would suggest a heavier anchor, so it penetrates the Sea bed.

We used the box anchor on the Kenai last year-- or should I say we tried to use one. It slowed us down, but did not hold us in place.
May be good as a second anchor in sandy bottoms, but didn't work in the river on gravels/rocky bottom.

My second anchor, an 11# Bruce plus 15' of chain and 200' of 1/2" three strand fit nicely under the aft dinette seat along with spare lines, butane cans, etc.. I keep the anchor, chain, and line in a small duffle bag with the curved Bruce flukes fitting around the bag on the outside. My 2006 is pre-molded interior.

We store the anchor in between the fuel tanks on a CD-22. We keep the
rode, which on the Chesapeake does not need to be that long, in a
duffle bag. We also keep our 30 amp shore cord in one. The bags keep
everything from turning into a tangled mess.

I have 2 Fortress anchors broke down in there bags and I use a box anchor in sand and mud they are very heavy, 2 to 1 scope no chain. The biggest problem with it is the ability to carry a bunch of mud up with it. About 50lbs worth. If the winds are blowing at Lake Powell that is the one thats in the water. I also carry an assortment of mountain climbing cams and wedges to stick in cracks and tie to the cliffs and rocks.
